Description
Welcome to the Scuderie di San Marco (San Marco's Stables), a barn located in the norh of Venice's lagoon.
This area is very humid with cold and rigid winters but also with muggy and hot summers, luckily the nearness to the Adriatic Sea makes the climate milder than the inland.
The terrain was bought by the Santoro family a few years ago for building a new stud farm dedicated to breeding Sella Italiani (italian warmbloods). Recently the works have finished so it's time to make a stable tour!
Scuderie di San Marco
This place is located between the Dese river and Venice's lagoon. The terrain is slightly darker than the normal and it's hard for the plants to live here due to the excessive presence of salty water, but the few that can handle this "extreme" environment grow strong and nicely. Maritime Pines, Spartina Maritima, Salicornia veneta, Juncus maritimus are the plants that you'll be more likely to find here.
You can get to the barn with a short drive of 20 and less minutes from Marco Polo Airport, taking the SS14.
Once you'll exit from the highway you'll be exactly in front of the stables.
- 1. Parking Lot: all the trails among the barn are made with stabilized terrain, this is why it's so light. In the parking lot you'll find the camion and the vans.
- 2. Club House: this building contains the actual club house, bathrooms for ladies and gentlemen with a shower, private saddlery, two offices, two big locker rooms and a small apartment on the 2nd floor.
- 3. Manor House: the home of Santoro family, slightly outside from the stable so they can divide private life from work
