Yea, it's good for orientation, I think, but nothing necessary. I am trying to consider the rule of thirds often, but I also like to ignore it. Anyway, I am avoiding symmetry recently - except for some subjects with are really well for it.

I find myself not thinking about it but still doing it. Maybe because the rule comes from that composition being pleasing to the eye. But yes, doing things differently can also be good and at times even better because that stands out.

Sometimes I made good experiences with far more extreme compositions, putting the main subject to the edge, or cutting it in half!

I sure would like to try more of that stuff as well. I guess I'm really stuck in the traditional style so it's diffiult to do. Multiple focus points looks interesting. It's just a little bit uncoventional but that makes a big difference.
