Description This is a small series from a bigger project of Documenting Taiwan.

Tourism isnt big business in Taiwan like it is in other counties in South East Asia like Thailand. This results in a greater difficulty in finding detailed information on historical sites. This is a series meant to document the oldest and often neglected chinese and japanese architecture in Taiwan.

Taiwan is a place of rapid growth and modernization. As a result of some huge population booms through immigration to Taiwan after the loss of the Chinese Civil War, traditional architecture styles from the Qing dynasty and Japanese occupation were destroyed in place of cheap, culture-less concrete blocks.

Some of the old architecture remains, often spotted around major cities by people who haven't sold out and like their traditional homes. Many of them are in disrepair and will be bulldozed soon. This isn't a documentary of important historical sites and temples but rather a documentary of ordinary life-ways that are being swept away with modernization and western progress.
