Grateful Dead - Cold Rain And Snow

Well she went up to her room and she sang a fateful tune
And I'm going where those chilly winds don't blow
Winds don't blow

And I'm going where those chilly winds don't blow

Oh, this is a great one of the Statue of Liberty. I should try manipulating one of the many shots I have of her. Great inspiration here! Thanks.

Aww...thank you so very much, Maryellen. Yeah this is a personal favorite of mine
I still remember that dreary rainy day I took it from the ferry. This wasn't manipulated...it was shot as seen

I know yours wasn't. I read in comments it was raining, plus a film camera and all that hoodoo you do. Made for a great effect. I was just going to try to make my sunny day shots interesting. I don't usually edit them, maybe only the black and white ones, but I'm tired of my own shots.

Hey there's nothing wrong with manipulating for the sake of art. My definition of photomanipulation is the taking of two or more images from different sources to make one. So that's all I meant regarding that this wasn't a manip. But every photo is "enhanced" somewhat from the original. Usually standard stuff like contrast boosts and some burning and dodging.

I know what you mean. I never understood burning and dodging. The most I’ve done is color curves. And desaturation with color curves. Oh...and I forgot what you call it, but turning the edges white usually, black sometimes.

Trippy4U In reply to always-mep [2018-04-24 15:04:21 +0000 UTC]

Cool
Burning is adding more exposure to a selected area and dodging is the opposite in that you hold back the exposure in selected areas. For example, if I weren't so lazy I would redo this image by burning in the highlights in that uppermost right hand corner so that the white of the border is whiter than the whites of the image. I could also dodge the mid-tones of the left hand corner to balance the "look" with that of the right. But since it was a dark cloud I left it as is. That technique you're thinking of is called vignetting. Very popular with wedding/portrait photographers way back when.

Thank you, Richard. 😊 I’ll have to try it sometime. 👍 And yes, that was the term I was looking for . Thank you! 💚

Just incredible I want some tmax 3200! is this a negative scan or a print scan?

Trippy4U In reply to jesseboy000 [2016-03-22 04:24:23 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a million, Jesse
MEEEEEEEEEE Tooooooo 3200 4ever
It's even worse than that. I really haven't done this image justice. I have this hanging in my living room framed and being the lazy son-of-bitch, I so often can be, I just took a pic of the print with a Point N Shoot Canon G7. I really should take the time to either scan the negative or take this print down and remove it from under glass and its matting and scan it proper like it should be. The original is 100 times better than what I've represented it with here. But the general "feel" of it is captured and so I let it stand as is

Wow you saying the original is 100 x better then this makes me want to see! Nothing wrong with capturing it with another camera but yeah maybe someday give it a scan Such a great piece of work deserves that. However I would have never known!! I'm litereally about to order that bunch of film. You only live once right!

Jesse as I'm sure you know...nothing looks better than a real photographic print in hand. That's where they were intended to be seen...not really on computer screens which don't show the depth within.
AWESOME...I look forward to seeing your results with it. Yea as far as I know only once. So go for it...it's only money and you're young enough to make a ton more.

I really want to take a b/w photography class so I can learn to make prints someday. But just developing at this point is a learning process enough, I know the printing is harder.

Your right about the as far as I know part. and I appreciate your optimism in my future financially speaking

Do they offer classes in your area for "old-fashion" Photography 101?
Well I'm basing that upon how much living you have left. Assuming another 80 years, you should make more than triple what you've made to this point as a 24 year old

Haha we will see about that, I'm not in school anymore and just working full time . But I make enough to get by and then by some cameras too and film. I'll make sure my daughter gets a good education and career so she can hook me up when I'm about 45. I'll be 37 when she is 18 I had her young.

And I'm sure they do I just haven't looked it out too much for the classes, sounds like a blast!!!

Aww...thank you very much Vanja...always highly regarded by me when you like something
Another one I should update. What I did here was take a picture of the original print with a point & shoot camera. So the quality really suffered. This print is a 16 X 20. Too big to fit into my scanner. But I should retake a photo of the print with one of my DSLR's. It would be a big improvement. But you know me...its on my "Things That Need Doing That Will Never Get Done" list

LOL...well, the rain is very cool too, but I love your grain. You see a lot of shots of The Statue of Liberty, but you've managed to do it different. Very nice.

You are most welcome.

I love grain as well...it's inherent in film (which this was shot on)...hard to get with digital.

ha!...I've found that out well. I have a software plug-in for my PS (Noiseware Professional) which I have been thoroughly unsuccessful with. Of course, it may be that my medium of choice are flowers...but it doesn't keep me from trying. Anyway...again..awesome work.
