Thank you! I'm really enjoying this, it's a lot easier than the method I have been using before. I've got a lot of birds drawn recently and I'll be uploading some of them eventually, but they're all in this style.

I'm definitely partial to hatching, though I can't seem to make mine look any good when I'm working digitally (do you have any tips? ). I think my favorite part about yours is the soft layers of shading and lines. They add a different kind of dimension to the feathers.

Hatching is fun! I'm using a chalk brush for these with everything, so the brush itself is already rough and it's more of a challenge to get things smooth. It's easier to get this effect with a rougher brush than one that's seamless. Then it's just placing a base shape and working it up from broader to smaller strokes, keeping in mind where the plane changes and fur/feather directions are going. It takes some trying to figure out and some practice. Eventually I'll get a video of these things done as well.
