Description Let there be nothing...
This piece (the second of the supernaturally themed drawings I've mentioned) is based on some parts of an old concept I came up with a few years ago while sitting, bored to tear, in a history of photography class. I've since altered the concept based on some further readings I did on alchemy, and the concept of the creation of the perfect being. The first stage in the creation of a perfect being, combining male and female traits into a beautiful androgynous creature, giving it a semblance of the divine before actually empowering it. It's not a true angel, but its made to appear as one (I have a feeling this may come up, but he isn't missing a wing. My original sketches just had the wing completely obscured by the pillar. His wings are meant to be wounded, not majestic, but yes, I realize it's not there). This creature was meant to be locked away in an unmade universe, allowed to develop on its own until it was ready to be reborn with power. There's a whole other back story to this creature, how it decided to go about acquiring this power, but that's for another time.
I tried experimenting with more of a combination of the two inking mediums I've got at my disposal: nib pens and technical pens. The technical ones played more of a role here than they did in my previous post. Almost all the shading is done with HB or 2B pencils, though the background was done using shavings from a the hard carbon I use in my mechanical pencil, rubbed around with a terrycloth rag to give it texture. The symbols on the pillar are largely based on either alchemical symbols, or fragments of the various talismans used in the Necronomicon.
As always, I've love to hear what anyone has to say about my technique or style.
The copyright's up top, so I shouldn't need to say that this drawing is the original creation of Tristan Tolhurst and cannot be reproduced without my express permission.

Thanks so much It's based a little on symbols and motifs from the Necronomicon, arranged according to my imagination.

The composition is fucking awesome! holy crap. When did you do this one? It's really friggin nice. You've actually created movement with the rocks, I love it.

His wings are so sexy. Can I have his babies?
