Hell is potentially suffering due from a life of undue harm to others but I have analysed as follows:
"Heat"= passion/lust
"Darkness"= ignorance and wickedness, darkness of spirit
Pain as explained
Long duration is due to egotism and prolonged attention to one's lot
Fear
I will be interested in why it is frozen.

Ha, I love how this artwork has turned into one of those blops of ink the shrinks always shows you. The whole thing of beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This is one of the reasons why I create the stuff I do, I like that it is open to be interpreted, and equally so the interpretations I get.
I find your interpretation very interesting, especially as it seems that even if there is no sign of heat what so ever in this piece, your mind still jumps there. Even if only just to use as a contradictory explanation. The 'why' is quite simple really;
Firstly you should understand that in every one of my personal artworks, I show the viewer a little piece of who I am. In my perspective, the who I am is pretty vast, and there's a lot of artwork to be made from and for this. In this, my explanation of the nature ass well as the beauty of darkness is interpreted. I am a creature of darkness really, I live during the night, I like dark stuff. I'm just dark and creepy. For me the best time of the year is winter, because for some reason my mind connects winter and the cold it brings to darkness. And as I have a very deep seated love for the darkness, the thought of it brings immense joy to me. So this being said, what the normal person thinks of darkness is evil and demonic. Thus it is from hell. This has been a thing I have witnessed my whole life; people who don't know any better believe the darker people amongst them to be from hell, or satanic. Judged purely on what's on the outside. When reading old mythological texts, it seems that Lucifer had kind of the same thing going. He was different, asked different questions, had different ideas, and was condemned for them to hell.
I hope you can make sense out of this, and that it lives up to your expectations.

In the end it is much more a representation of a part of me, than it is of the actual Lucifer character. It's art. Not meant to be rationalized, rather just interpreted.

Lol, that's what I tried to explain with that huge freakin comment. To put it plainly, if Lucifer is the king of hell and lives there, and he is a creature of darkness, then hell must be darkness also. I don't associate darkness with fire, but rather with ice. That's why.

There is a reason for Hell being frozen over? My guess is that it is cold and dark. Fire would provide light and warmth, something that of which Lucifer no longer has. There are many interpretations of Hell, mostly being recognized with fire, brimstone and the eternal burning of the damned. I do enjoy this version of Lucifer though. Very nicely done.

Mmm, very nice theory. It could've been that also, it pretty much almost is. The truth of it is... I associate the darkness with winter. I am a total creature of darkness, I blossom in area where the light can't reach. As such, I am also much happier and alive in the winter time. When there is very little sun and warmth outside. So naturally when thinking of the being who is reputable for his uber darkness, i associate it with the coldness.

Hah, yes and my bedside lamp, for reading. I can't stand the heat, I very intolerable towards heat. Even in the winter time I'm nver really cold, but at least in winter it's nice and cool.
And every one of my personal works have a little clue about who I am in them. I've never been able to explain the extend of my weird personality in words to people, I express it through art.

Well, my theory is usually you can always put more clothes on if you are cold, but you can't always take everything off. I just don't like heat either though. It's very uncomforting as I am already warm-blooded. Cool to the touch feels very nice on the skin, and helps your body's ability to withstand the cold. I just looked at your profile again and got reminded that you are in South Africa. Do you enjoy it there? That's one of two continents I have not been to yet.
I'm definitely going to be looking into your collection though.
