Description Stegodon trigonocephalus is a stegodontid proboscidean that lived in Java, Indonesia during Pleistocene epoch. It was one of many species that came from genus Stegodon which ranged from Africa to Sumba Island of Indonesia. Stegodon trigonocephalus means "Roofed Tooth with Triangular Head" due to its jagged roof-like crowns on its molars and its triangular shaped head. It was a medium sized stegodont, with length of 2.5-3 m and weight around 800 kg, making it quite small compared to mainland relatives. It is likely that this stegodont is a transitional form between large sized forms and dwarf sized forms that lived in further island like Flores and Sumba...

Drawn for local event PaleoNusantara held by Indonesian Paleontology enthusiast group.
