Description Becoming Natsuki (Part 1)

Nate sat back in his chair as he stared at the ending screen... He'd initial picked up Doki Doki Literature Club for the meme of it, it had been everywhere for a while and it was free. Having finished the game he was surprised how much he enjoyed it. After all he went to the trouble of getting the best ending he could and had even gotten the thank you from Sayori for it... it wasn't a game he'd replay, after all that kinda of 'undo' the good he just did wouldn't it? In all honesty, he wished there was a REAL visual novel with the cast, getting a chance to really explore their characters and stories. That was probably a bit much to ask but it was fun to think about...

"Man, I can't believe I'm getting sentimental about a bunch of digital girls." Nate chuckled to himself. It  would likely have been a surprise to those who didn't know him, Nate was tall with a large frame. Had been all his life. Many mistook him as a guy into contact sports but he'd much rather be reading or playing an engaging story... "Guess I really am a softie at heart," he added with a smile as he went to click out of the game. In that same instant the power dipped and a shock when through his arm, causing him to flinch back and drop the mouse. Toppling over with his computer chair. His computer screen briefly showed a pink haired girl reaching for the screen before it all went black as well.

"Ow, that the hell was that?" he hissed softly as the power came fully back up but his computer didn't... With great reluctance he tried to restart his computer but got nothing. Nate let out a string of curses that would make a sailor blush before coming to the unfortunately conclusion.

His Computer was bricked.

Technology was not Nate's forte, it never had been, but he had a friend. Time to call in a favor. He started over to his nightstand to get his phone and stopped as he was hit was a wave of dizziness, he barely managed to catch himself on his bed frame. It took a moment for the dizzy spell to finally pass and Nate was able to stand up straight once more.

"Dang, maybe that shock took more out of me then I thought?" he muttered shaking his head before he picked up his phone. A quick set of dials and the phone connected.

"Hello?"

"Sam?" Nate started, having clear his throat as his voice cracked briefly. Weird. "Sorry, it's Nate."

"Oh hey man, you okay. You sound off?"

"I'm mostly fine, my computer is fired though..." Nate could hear a muffled sigh on the other end of the phone.

"What did you do this time?" Something in his tone ignited a spark of indignation. Sure he'd messed up his computer with sketchy downloads or trying to run a game on specs much higher then his computer could handle but this time was different. Where did he get off?

"Nothing!" He burst out with a frown, unconsciously putting his free hand on his hip. "I was just exiting a game when the power surged and it went black!"

"Woah, Sorry man. Didn't mean..." Sam sounded surprised at the anger directed back his way and tried to placate his friend.

"Well you shouldn't just accuse people out of the blue then." Nate huffed in return.

"My bad, so I take it you want me to come by and take a look at it then?"

"...Yeah, if you have the time." His voice squeaked again as the anger burned out leaving Nate feeling a bit self-conscious at his little outburst.

"That's cool, I need to finish up this game first but I can stop by round... 5pm. Sound good?"

"Yeah that's cool, folks are out of the house so just buzz me when you get here."

"All right man, see you then."

"Right and.. uh." Nate cleared his throat as his voice cracked once more. "Sorry about yelling at you before..." he added in a softer tone, almost muttering to himself.

"No problem, You're stressed I get that. It's all good." Sam replied goodnaturedly  "See you tonight."

"Yeah, See you tonight." He hung up and smiled, a weight lifted off his chest. Sam was such a good guy... even if he could be a bit of an idiot sometimes. Nate chuckled to himself unaware of the streak of pink that had appeared on the back of his head.

"Now, what's the best way to kill a few hours?" With the computer down Nate was going to need to find other ways to occupy himself. His eyes trailed over to his bookcase and he quirked a smile. Maybe he could catch up on some of his series, he'd been putting it off for a while now. He made his way over to his bookcase, finger traced along the various titles available... He wasn't in an action mood today, which was a shame as that was most of his collection. His finger stopped on a title "The Champions of Justice and the Supreme Ruler of Evil." he tilted his head curiously. "I don't remember picking this one up." He muttered to himself, his voice cracking once more but he ignored it. He really hoped he wasn't coming down with something.

It was a Light novel, It sounded actiony but it looked more like some kind of reverse harem story based on the description... A young girl claiming to be a supreme ruler of evil but doing good deeds instead and the reluctant 'champions of justice' tasked with 'stopping her'. It looked cute, so why not. it'd kill some time. He brought the book over to the bed and flopped on to it. His socks hung loose, half falling off his feet, he kicked them off without a second thought and got comfortable.

Time ticked away as Nate got absorbed into the story. Mia was a dense but sympathetic character, living on her own and slowly forming relationships and friendships with the people tasked to keep her in line. It even got quite risque in places, the romantic tension with the male lead Ren was really engaging and a bit steamy he was shamed to admit... Unbeknown to Nate with every flip of the page he seemed to change. His fat and muscle slowly melting away, his excess hair fading, his short cropped hair lengthening ever so slightly as a another couple streaks of pink bled in clashing with the brown.

It was only his stomach growling that broke him out of the trance. Nate blinked looking down to his stomach in surprise before glancing over to his phone. He'd been reading for nearly 2 hours... but he was just getting to the best bit. "I suppose I can take a break though." he muttered to himself, his voice wasn't cracking anymore but it did still sound off, a bit squeaky. Sam was going to have a field day with that. "Great," Nate huffed in annoyance at the thought of the incoming ribbing, but another rumble brought his focus back to the present. "Right food," He reluctantly placed a book mark to hold his place and shuffled to the edge of the bed, the tip of his toes just brushing the floor before he hopped out of bed. As he landed his sweats pooled at his legs nearly making him trip. Cursing up a storm he kicked them aside and tried collect himself. They were old sweats but they'd never felt that stretched out...

Maybe... maybe he'd finally lost some weight? He did seem to have slimmed down a fair bit, the thought made him smile. He'd been worried it had been a fruitless endeavor but it looked like he was making a lot of process... That thought went a long way to lifting his mood after the near fall. He padded into the hallway barefoot, dressed in just his t-shirt and underwear. He was alone in the house and the t-shirt was baggy enough to cover past his waist so it'd be fine... strange though as he was pretty certain it hadn't been that long before... but another growl from his stomach put that issue aside for now. Better get some food, It felt like He hadn't eaten all day.

To Be Continued...

AN: The above short is an edited collection of snippets from the Interactive story 'Doki Doki Literature Club TG Interactive' on writing(dot)com originally conceived by user Draken546. All the written content is written by Me, re-edited to make a better reading experience.

The Champions of Justice and the Supreme Ruler of Evil is a real light novel that has been translated into English by Kaede Kikyou. It's a fun read in my opinion and seemed like the kind of thing Natsuki... I mean Nate would enjoy. Check it out if you get the chance(Blatant shill)

Ah so you're porting it over, neat, writing.com has become a pain to read every since it started it's paid subscription, hard enough now to even check the recently added log.

Yeah, the interactive story format there does inspire me to write more since it's in short bursts and thus I can keep my inspiration flowing a bit better... but it can be a pain to read especially in the larger stories where you try to follow an interesting plot some people are weaving then it gets derailed suddenly by someone else... I ended up breaking down and getting a sub just to be able to see if I wanted to write on the site at all (as the free experience is total ass). It's okay, at least I have an outlet now for my transformation needs...

With this set up I get the ease of pumping out snippets and then the satisfaction of editing them down into an actual story people can read. As long as I'm only using my own threads it seems fair enough.
