Description Coloured versions of my fakemon designs based on the Naked Mole Rat - or Desert Mole Rat - which are fascinating creatures and worth reading up on. I also added a version of the first evolution - Burrowdent - without his burrow at the bottom to avoid another diglett-based meme

Burrowdent
--------------------
Derivation: Burrow + Rodent
Abilities: Run Away / Guts
Classification: Hairless Rat Pokemon

Despite the fact that it can't see very well, Burrowdent uses its teeth and whiskers - as well as its nose - to find its way in the burrows it builds. Its bare and hairless skin lets it feel everything around it including slight shifts in the wind and air temperature, so they are experts at predicting when danger approaches and how to avoid it. They are rarely seen on the surface, spending most of their time underground where they live in large groups in colonies similiar to ants; they group together in large piles to sleep for warmth. If they do need to venture above their tunnels, they only poke their head briefly through the surface, requiring no more than a few seconds to detect their surroundings.

Rodrill
---------------------
Derivation: Rodent + Drill
Abilities: Sand Force / Mold Breaker
Classification: Drill Fang Pokemon

Rodrill's body has hardened from its experience in digging, giving it metal-like qualities; It's solid body and adapted drill-like teeth are specially adapted for travel underground and lets it drill thousands of burrows in a very little time. It also uses these built-in digging implements to protect its siblings when they are under attack. As with Burrowdent, it can sense any danger long before it becomes a serious threat, their naked skin being sensitive enough to pick up small vibrations in the ground; when danger is detected, Rodrill will create new burrows to make a safe place for its family, moving entire colonies to another location at rapid speed.

Potential moves list: Bulldoze, Dig, Drill Run, Drill Peck, Mud Slap, Fissure, Earthquake, Earth Power, Sand Attack, Rock Slide, Entomb, Rock Throw, Bite, Crunch, Hyper Fang, Super Fang, Thunder Fang, Fire Fang, Ice Fang, Sand Storm, Scratch, Fury Swipes, Slash, Gyro Ball, Iron Head, Metal Claw, Metal Sound

Drill Fang
----------------------
Pow - 100
Accuracy - 90
PP - 10
Type - Steel
Catagory - Physical
The user attacks with a drill-like mouthpiece.

But you don't need pants for the victory dance I can't help it if they're free spirits

Heheh thanks very much yeah, whenever I tried arms on Burrowdent it didn't look too great and seemed to unbalance the whole design; that and the fact that it created a more unique body shape that is hard to find amongst rodents! They will indeed be the rarer underground appearances My favourite part is the belly button too though I do just want to boop it. *BOOOOOOP!*

I got the inspiration of Rodrill's shape from the animal themselves, which have a colony-based structure to their burrows and a 'queen' as the ruler, so this is what I imagined the queen would look like I an assure you that no rodents were harmed in the making of this fakemon, so the belly button doesn't hurt, it's just hardened and not impaled I was unsure at firsy if the combination of pink skin and metal would work or give too much of a cyborg appearance, but I integrated it as well as I could and found the two materials looked oddly at ease with each other rather than contradictory

Thanks very much my friend, I'm pleased you like them

Hahaha that emote is hilarious XD

Of course, removing details and stuff doesn't always affect the design negatively. It came out well in this one I just wanna give the belly button a little poke, y'know? See how it feels

So I guess it being the queen is where the strong protective attitude towards its family comes from. I figured that too, you wouldn't be the kind of guy to make piercings in moles' bellies But you never know. Pink and metal do go well together, it's quite peculiar.

The pleasure's mine ^^

LOL I know, right?

This is true, sometims a more measured approach brings a better result heheheh I think it would be awesome; I imagine it would make it giggle

Yep, exactly! I considered making it a female only evolution - I still might in the future - but for now I just wanted to get the designs up Hahahah no, I haven't pierced a mole's belly for a long.... I mean, no, I've never done that

Though you have to be careful of the amount of detail you take out. Can't be too careful in this world Can't help it, that belly button is just awesome XD

Ok I see I haven't either >.> no pierced mole bellies for about two mon- erm. Never done it. I'm innocent I tell you

Wow, I just love how you created this fakemon rat. The color choice is just perfect for it. The dimensions are just like a pokemon. The way you choose to do the lighting and shadows are very well done too. I love how clearly you can see the difference between both fakemons but at the same time you can tell that one evolves from the other. Also the metallic color you choose for Rodrill and its belly button is very realistic. Although I must say it has a small similarity to a mix with Excadrill and Raticate. Very interesting design.

Thanks for the kind words and for taking the time to critique!

I'm pleased you like the colours, it's always a challenge to make a ground type that isn't the standard sand or brown colour (plus ground type designs are my weakness, so I wanted to challenge myself!). I love to add texture into colouring too, it's one of my favourite aspects of the final stages of the design

I always try to keep some similiarities and consistancy between design stages - as one of my other friends pointed out, with remoraid which evolved into octillery, the results can be jarring if it doesn't (how a silver fish evolves into a red octopus I'll never know!).

I guess the problem with rodent designs is they all have very similiar body shapes; something I shall have to try coming at from another angle in the future

Thank you well, because they're based on the mole rat, they're pretty much blind and don't need eyes There will be a shiny version so I'll try out some traditional mole colours when I get around to it and see what they come out like

ToxicWyvern [2013-05-16 01:00:37 +0000 UTC]

The fleshy pink body combined with the metalic parts works surprisingly well here. I also really like Rodrill's drill tooth.

And about remoraid and octillery, if you look at their body shapes remoraid resembles a gun where as octillery resembles a tank (which is basically a really big gun on wheels). Also they are both underwater creatures with suckers that squirt water.

Kyle- Dove explains it better here: [link]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Trueform In reply to ToxicWyvern [2013-05-16 07:57:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much for the appreciation, I'm pleased you like it Also thanks for the link! I can see where they're coming from, but imho I can't call remoraid / octillery's design 'amazing' because for me, when a pokemon evolves you have to be able to see where it comes from and not work for it! Plus, a fish evolving into an octopus... I dunno, I just feel like there should be a middle evo to make the change easier to adjust to.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ToxicWyvern In reply to Trueform [2013-05-16 17:01:31 +0000 UTC]

I see what you mean about remoraid and octillery. While the idea is clever the execution was strange because it sort of goes against the way most evolutions in pokemon work. For the most part, an evolution is something that a pokemon could grow into if it were really alive. Even strange ones like Dragonair to Dragonite make sense because it seems reasonable that a legless dragon could grow limbs and wings as it evolves. However, a fish growing into an octopus because they both squirt water doesn't really fit. It'd be like a a dog evolving into an alligator because they both bite.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Trueform In reply to ToxicWyvern [2013-05-16 17:13:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, exactly.

It's a nice theory and it would work in a way if there was some progression being shown, but just being linked to firing things isn't really effective enough a reason for me personally. As you say, it's about the context and what has gone before - in another 'pet monster' game if you'll pardon the generalism, it wouldn't really be noticed because they stick less to physical progression, but the progression has already been established by the series and it appears at odds with the other designs.

Dragonite also kinda works because Dragonair is like a lungworm dragon where as Dragonite takes some influence from western dragons, but still remains obviously dragon-based.

They look great !!

Are they ?

Can I suggest you something for infos and abilities?

I hope you won't mind, but I thought about :

Rodent : Run Away/Guts
Rodrill : Sand Force/Mold Breaker

For the infos :

Rodent : Despite the fact that it can't see very well, it uses its teeth and whiskers, as long as its nose to find its way in the galleries it builds. Its naked skin lets it feel everything around it, and it knows when a danger comes and how to counter it.

Rodrill : Its half steel body lets it drill thousands of galleries in a very little time. It also can protect its siblings by attacking with its powerful arms and teeth. As Rodent, it can sense any danger, and create new galleries to make new safe place for its children.

I hope I helped you to come up with the infos and abilities and that you don't mind my suggestion
