Description Here's a quick tutorial to help people out who struggle with the very basics of shading. I'll be uploading more tutorials in the future, if there's something you want to see a tut on, just drop me a comment and let me know!

Oh, and in this tut, I refer to something called threshold. Please not that in some paint programs, it's called tolerance

This tutorial was made with Paint.net, a free paint program. I don't use any techniques that can't be replicated in other painting programs so it should be universally friendly. Enjoy!

I just realised!!! What about my outlines??? Even though you did some for me, shouldn't I learn how to make the outlines too???

That is purely practise, there's no guidelines that can be used for that, really. I can teach you how to set the image up in Paint.NET though, no problem. Cleaning up the lines is one of the most dull and time-consuming parts

This is very useful, especially for my fakemon, since it has shiny and smooth skin. Thanks for showing it to me Trueform.

I don't, though I'm due to do a badge tutorial at some point in the near future, so I can add one about layering too if you like

The basics are that each layer you add is like a sheet of tracing paper; you can see what's underneath it and make marks on it without affecting what's underneath. It's handy for adding details you may need to change or alter at some point and some people make a layer for each different shade.

Sure, that's not a problem I have some lineart to finish, but I'm gonna start my other tutorial after that, so it'll be along at some point tomorrow if all goes according to plan
