You have got that 1950 -1960's feel going perfectly -- I love this!

I don't know how much space you are working with but this was shot in an area eight feet by ten feet...smaller than an average bedroom. In fact, the background, "floor" and the bench coverings are just black sheets.

Not so much. She's in school and already reading (at 4 1/2), counts to 100 and is learning to count backwards from the same, can start a conversation with you in three languages and count to 10 in four...and is a sunny, funny, happy girl to boot. I'm very blessed! My other daughters are healthy and reasonably happy, so life is good on that front. I'm slowly recovering from more cardiac foo (had a stent put in last month) and am busy with the photography business.
How about you? How are things in your life?

I should be getting tips from you, sweetie. Your recent work is so very good. We've both improved a lot with our technique, haven't we? As for the portrait work, taking notes is a good thing...I do it all the time. Between that and the exif data from the camera I can keep track of all the variables. And getting models to give you an expression is the hardest part of what we do...don't be afraid to make them do it. Tell them, "look, a picture is just a picture unless you give me a good expression." I find a lot of my girls are fans of America's Next Top Model (I'm sure there's an equivalent in the UK) and Tyra Banks is always preaching to have "fierce eyes," meaning to have expression. So that helps too.

I do both the shooting and the post processing on my photos and, yeah, I can completely relate both to the results they get and what you're saying. My personal goal in all my people photography is to create "that" image with little or no need for PS. I can save an average photo...provided it's posed correctly and the model brings something to the table...with various PS techniques and make it at least interesting. So I see the advantage of knowing as much as possible about that side of the art, but nothing will ever take the place of creating it right the first time.
