If you look at the various reviews of Canon, Nikon and Sigma macro lenses, this one scores as well if not better for quality. It's not HSM, and will sometimes seek focus in lower light conditions. But for the money, it's awesome.

I just bought the 70mm Sigma Macro (for Canon) that came out last year. All the reviews said it was better than the equivalent L series Canon glass and so far I can't argue. I would have preferred either the 105mm or 150mm, but also wanted it to double as a portrait lens as well. I was also pleased with the price of the lens, as it was in the low $400's, which is inexpensive for this quality of glass. I've included a link to the Sigma website for a 105mm Macro lens for your E500 so you can read up on it. Hope this helps.

the very cool thing about it is that it's filling the picture completley, so you can't see the edges of the flower

Thanks, Mark. I like simple and it doesn't get much more so than this image. To me, sometimes the barest essense of form tells more than a more complex depiction. After looking at your gallery I believe you might feel the same way. Your approach to doing nudes seems to be of the same aesthetic.
