So today I made some better pictures (or atleast I had some more natural light) of the Tomahawk I finished yesterday. I know it's a bit of overkill, but I guess it's just honest that you guys can see all the details (or screw-ups) I made when crafting this prop.Rest is just like the other Tomahawk description:
I must say I'm pretty pleased with it, it could use some paint here and there and some sanding, but I guess I do like the rough weathered look, but still looking pretty much like the in game thing.
Little side note: I did sand a piece of wood to have a curve, but at the handle it wasn't thick enough for my taste so I've put some layers of leather at the top of the handle to add thickness. You can't see this because of the leather handle straps that went over it.
For anybody interested:
Blade: mdf
Blade connection to the handle: polymere clay
Handle: sanded into shape construction wood
Strings and handle: leather from old couches
Feathers: pigeonfeathers (my dad has pigeons in the backyard
Beads: wooden ones
Rivets: 7 nails specially made for furniture

Question! When you paint your props do you ONLY use metallic paint/ any suggestions for someone trying to get a sleeker shine for a blade? your AC cosplays are just really kick ass and your tomahawk is amazing

Hey hey, thanks for the long comment and tips!
I also use drybrushed black paint. I did however used a "new technique" for my Edward Swords (no pics of that). I sculpt the blade in wood. Then I cover it with glue to hide the woodgrain and after that I paint it metallic. Then I add the black dry brush.
I will look into you suggestion! I hope it's sturdy enough though. I switched from MDF to multiplex, because the MDF is easy to work with, but it also breaks easier.

And paperclay would be better for smaller stuff like your belt buckle or eagle on your blade handle. It's good for detailing b/c it sticks to most surfaces but I wouldn't try it on something with a larger surface area. layers make it a little heavy xP

I have made them, but never uploaded them (that is the head). Even when I would post these it wouldn't help you much since everything is measured to my own body size.

I still haven't. I used a placeholder blade, but it was just the handle and blades, not the actual retracting thing with "docking station".

screw the fact that the wood tone isnt the exact shade of brown this is the best ac3 tomahawk ive ever seen no one will ever match it great work its exactly like connors i liked the others i had seen but you got the exact bend in the handle, the same end and the same form of the leather man

Dude......what classes in high school/college did you take to understand how to do your costumes/props? I have to know, since I'm a sophomore. I still have time.

Nothing particulair, but I guess math helped a lot. For one it learns you how to work with proportions and angles. Secondly it was so easy it gave me time to draw (which was essentially my first step to creativity).
However, I just did a lot of minor crafting work with my mom and have loads of patience. Especially patience is something that comes in handy

yeah ikr but just the fact that it is so nice in the round part (the "cutting" part)
