I like how the ship looks like it slightly distorts due to the heat wave/ shock wave, however you'd like to call it.

Love it. I like the subtle hue shifts, the ship design and I think you got just about the right amount of explosions going on (so it has impact but isn't overwhelming).
One particular thing I noticed too was making the lights on the ship ellipses (rather than circular points) to convey that fact that the ship is moving. That is so brilliant and simple but I don't think I would have thought of it and it adds to the sense of movement.
Are you still using 3D assets to help get the basic angle and designs?
