This is at Mt Hotham, vic in Australia.

Possibly a bit far for you to go just to see snow, though.

I want to have a house in australia when I get older. I want one in German, one in Australia, and then I would be quite happy. And, it would be easier to drive north for a few hours to find snow, but it wouldnt be australian snow now would it? It wouldnt be that snow.

Australian snow ain't all that great. They say that if you can ski on Australian snow you can ski anywhere. Basically, it just doesn't get cold enough. This year was a bit of a freak season.

I live in california, USA, and where I live, there is never snow. A couple hours away, it snows, but I have grown up with no snow. I dont care if I can ski on it, I just want the darned snow! And snowball fights. And snow angels. And just snow snow snow.

Heh, well, there's no snow in the cities or anything. And it takes almost 5 hours to get to that particular mountain. The closest to Melboune (where I live) is about 3 hours.

I didn't REALLY grow up with snow either. But I do love it, and I try to go as often as possible. I pity those who can't.

In the mountains. In winter. Occassionally. Last season was particularly snowful, as it were.

Love this blue winter feeling! Fave, thanks for yours on Rust Islands!

You know, my favourite Asimov's books are the Eljah/Daneel Robot novels, read them can't remember how many times! What's your Asimov's favourite?

That's a tough one...

My favourite short story would have to be "Breeds There a Man", and favourite novels... probably also the Elijah/Daneel novels and the Foundation books (not just the original trilogy). Basically all the books set in that universe.

Nice photo there, so Hotham's still well and truly skiable?

That's actually my exact opinion when it comes to winter summer- Russian by birth, so there wego.

That shot is from July, actually, now the trees aren't quite so snow laden, but it's still well and truly skiable. Almost 2 m of snow, though it's probably melting now... At least I missed the heatwave, a blizzard has got to be better, right?

Thanks.

We don't get all that much snow (and only in the alps), but this year has been a really good season for it.

you might find that you get more and more each year with the weather getting more extreme. the summer here has been so hot this year, and im wondering whether the winter will go to the other end of the spectrum. snow would be nice

Tsana In reply to capnhack [2004-09-20 00:50:12 +0000 UTC]

Could be, could be. But if that's the case, I'm really dreading summer. Last year's 40+ degree (Celsius) days were bad enough. Personally, I'd rather we just went into a semi-ice-age.

We hardly ever get that much snow here downunder.
