Name: Kien
Breed: Mutt (GSD/Aussie/Border Collie)
Height: 22 inches
Weight: 65 lbs
Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
Orientation: Bisexual - Male Preference
Altered: No
Color: Tan overall with dark brown dorsal and head markings, white muzzle, chest splotch, tail tip and paws, brown ticking on extremities.
Defining Features: Kien usually appears upbeat and optimistic. Her nose and tall legs tend to resemble her german shepherd heritage, while her ears, fluff and energy are more akin to her collie/aussie background. She has ticking on all four paws, and only white toes on her right fore-paw while her other paws have gloves/socks to the joint. Her right ear is usually perked up, and the left is down - unless she is sad (both with be down) or intensely excited (both will be up).
Voice: Chirpy, cheerful. May resemble Kristen Bell's voice, but probably a little less pretty.
Personality: Kien is an overall friendly, energetic mutt who is eager to please. She has an “ESFJ” personality, according to the human’s Meyers-Briggs test - extroverted, sensing, feeling and judicious. This describes her as a dog who seeks to win the favor of others by working hard to fulfill the roles assigned to her. Kien is eager to work and achieve, and can get carried away sometimes in pursuing this goal.
She is somewhat conservative in her nature, as she does not like big changes imposed on her lifestyle, though she may not be able to articulate it very well to others. She likes to help maintain the rule and order of traditional culture of the pack she is in, but cares most about the happiness of the community at large, believing this order will help maintain the peace. Her greatest challenge is trying to understand differing perspectives - she struggles to relate especially to dogs who come from different backgrounds, and she easily can say offensive things, even if quite oblivious to that fact. She possesses some insecurities, namely in failing to perform and when her ideas or suggested are rejected by others. She tries hard to win over friends, but does not take criticism very well. She desires most to be praised for her work, especially if she is in a leading role.
Kien’s relationship with humans is consistently eager to please. While she may try to take a more dominant role among her fellow canines, her understanding that humans are in charge and are the ultimate master never wavers. Within her own pack, she tries to do her part to help all members of the group regardless of their rank, but will not risk her own standing should it come to pass. She enjoys helping others, but not if she has to take a risk to do so. Her attitude toward other animals varies - she treats the livestock according to her master’s will, and sees her mission to protect them as an almost sacred vow. Her approach toward wildlife is usually more hostile, should they venture near her pack’s territory, perceiving them often as a threat. Small animals that aren’t clearly the property of her master or a threat she will happily chase for fun. Dogs that are not owned by humans confuse her, as she sees her dedication as a partnership that is mutually beneficial and would be impossible for her to live without.
Pre-Group History: Kien, named for pine trees, grew up in a cold, mountainous area far to the west. She lived in a ski resort town where it snowed for most of the year, and hosted a number of tourists. A mountain dog at heart, she spent her youth outside in the snow with her owner, often running down mountains beside them on skis. Her early training was primarily for search and rescue in avalanches, and a lot of time and energy was invested into this by her owner and handler. In her training she was struggling to meet all standards, and on her first real mission the victim was found after over an hour, already dead. She blamed herself for this, and her future training performance plummeted, making her handler decide to place her in a new living situation. She has since been trying to make up for her perceived failure. Kien still often feels bad about being left by her first owner, and feels like it is her fault entirely for the incident.
She spent time for a short while on another farm in the mountains as a herding dog, working with goats and one other elderly herding dog who taught her the ropes of tending to a flock. Unfortunately her tenure did not last long as the farmer soon retired, along with his elderly dog. He sought to place Kien in a place where she would be of use, as she was still quite young and full of energy. Her understanding of her situation is unease, but she is excited by the prospect of a larger farm and a larger number of dogs. Because of the nature of her training she has been very well socialized with humans and other dogs, generally likes most that she meets unless they give her reason not to.
In her past she has had several romantic interests and close friends. She looked up to German Shepherds, especially the dog she believes was her sire who was a well-respected SAR dog. She had a romantic dalliance with a Bernese mountain mix but did not produce offspring. She has a great respect for the elderly border collie that she worked with at her last job. Dogs that remind her of these past figures will usually gain her respect quickly for this reason.
Group History: N/A
Kibbles Count: +2
Other: She used to wear a harness during her snow-training days, and is usually comfortable with being put in a harness, bandana or collar. There is a security in these items for her as they make her feel part of the “pack” with a human owner.
