Well.......there it is...To the left is how I started out back in 2012; a little pic I had never uploaded before and kept in private, stashed away in a folder deep inside my hard drive. To the right is a remake with my current skills in 2017! This character is not really anyone in particular. At the time I just thought: let's draw a cute damsel.

You used that time not only to get rid of typical amateur traits, learn shading and lighting, but also developed your very own, unique style. The overall look and feel of the visual elements is absolutely the biggest improvement that I also feel satisfied with. However indeed, I agree with you that the next step could be to put in some more expression and life into characters, to make them more believable. As for the body proportions, I tend to sometimes make little mistakes; I notice that too. It now and then occurs that I'm not completely in a full drawing mode, which results in a slightly less good quality.
If you have any further suggestions, do share them!

Yeah, great improvement here. The one little thing that I'd say maybe didn't improve as much as the rest is the way you draw the toes. They look a little too finger-like for my tastes, though I'm aware that it might very well be your own personal taste to draw them that way.

Yes, I mostly go for this style of feet most Japanese artists go for, where they are somewhat claw-like, which I think is cute.
But I like to draw them different now and then as well; there are many styles to choose from ;D

Ah yes. Something I recommend is to practice tracing the shape of other drawings, and get a feeling of how to draw. This has worked for me in the past.

Congrats on the pageviews! And thanks for celebrating with this fun treat. It interests me to see how you kept the image the same, at least in general, but learned a variety of subtleties that significantly improved it. The biggest improvement is that the latter is easier on the eyes. The old image forced the viewer to squint a bit as she blended into the background more. The new image has that darker background contasted with her detailed flesh, complete with shadows.
I can hardly imagine what you will do by 400,000 views!

Thank you! The newer one is indeed more 3 dimensional, and there are many little subtle things that make it better, like picking the right colours and line thickness. All this makes it less flat looking, like the old thing.

One thing I appreciate in how you've evolved, is you added some thigh rope. From too little, to the minimum for visual appeal IMO. lol. The eyes and the added life are such an improvement, and the fuller, more luscious hair. I actually prefer the feet and sandals on the left though, even though the toes look a bit too short, the overall appeal is just better, the portions and lines or something. The shadowing of the toe knuckles, especially all lined up so evenly, make me think of gargoyle feet or something.Β
