I think this may be my silliest idea for a quick drawing yet. The cute applejack in many sizes!

I've always been partial to the ponies being POA sized, between 44 and 52 inches tall at the shoulder. But Apple Jack is cute at any size. :]

My own headcanon has the ponies being around the size as the Applejack resting across the guy's lap (maybe ever so slightly larger). Basically having roughly the same body mass as a human, not accounting for any extra muscle and bone density earth ponies may have or possible lighter frames pegasi may have.

I figure that, despite their quadrupedal frame, having a similar physiology to humans would account for both their intelligence and adaptable physical capabilities. Any smaller and they would probably have a much harder time surviving among their larger, more aggressive neighbors. While larger bodies trade efficiency and capability for their proportionate mass.
At least that's the sciency side to my headcanon anyway.
