That is masterful work. Sandbar's face, his wetsuit, the water, the waves, the turtle, even the clouds look great.

Wow! So realistic! I love how Sandbar's body and his surf dress looks realistically wet. It's hard to see realistic wet pictures from any creatures, I guess that's because it takes much more time and practice to do.
PS: Personally I imagined Sandbar wearing a swim trunk with his cutie mark on it but I guess it would be harder to get on for himself because of his tail and because he is an earth pony.

I really like the idea of Sandbar as a surfer. We know he loves living in Ponyville, but I bet he spends all his summer vacations by the ocean.

I think it's been indicated many times in the show that Equestrian transportation is impossibly fast and convenient (just consider the episode Fake It 'til You Make It). My personal headcanon is that Equestria's trains use magic to shorten travel time (you can come to your own conclusions as to how that works). He could probably ride a train to either Vanhoover or Baltimare and be back at sundown almost every week.
