It comes in phases in canon. Β I'm reminded of several depiction within the mangas, in particular, when a certain kitsune impersonated Marisa... yeah that went over well. Β Other times she just talks tough. Β The real Reimu is a lot more... difficult to understand.
But both she and Marisa HAVE exterminated(not permanently) plenty of youkai without any real reason to do so before. Β And yes, Marisa has canonically done it before with no other motive than for the phat lewt. Β And Reimu has done it for no other reason than because they were a youkai.
