I must say, your comic so far is very intriguing - both the intro for Rivertale, and this prologue. I'm happy you decided to create a prologue, as it's nice to have a glimpse at the character's backstories, and to show off some of the other characters important to the AU.
The detailing you have done on that skull is stunning, it truly looks amazing. Although, what animal is that skull based on? I would say some kind of boar due to the tusk-like teeth on it's lower jaw, though I might be wrong, I'm not overly knowledgeable on animal skeleton anatomy. Anyway, I'm assuming the skull is some sort of Gaster Blaster, or at least a preliminary version of one, and I wanted to ask; are the Gaster Blasters sentient, or semi sentient in your AU? Or are they simply weapons/attacks?
I love how you have used the concept of Gael being the head of the Royal Guard; I've seen it a few times before, but I think it's fitting here given the character's personality (at least what we've seen of it) and the current progression of the plot. I also like how you've draw her and Gaster holding hands in that first panel, it's very sweet.
Gael's armour is very nicely designed. It looks as though it would be easily maneuverable, which matches her preferred weapon perfectly. Speaking of maneuverability, she must have very fast reflexes; being able to block that attack from such close quarters. Then again, just look at Sans' speed; he's capable of dodging Chara's attacks, so it would be very reasonable that Gael would be too.
I love how you've woven the colour people throughout the entire comic, and with most of the characters as well.
I'd like to know the current time period this comic is based in - out of curiosity. Obviously this is set before Sans, Papyrus, and Asriel are born, but in the normal version of Undertale, Chara does not fall down until Asriel is sometime into his childhood. However, as we can see here, Chara is fighting with Gael before Asriel has been born, so I wanted to know a little more about the timeline of events here (what happens when). Although, if you plan on answering that throughout the comic then feel free to just ignore this question.
Continuing with Chara, why are they attacking monsters? It doesn't exactly look like they're attacking in self defense, and I wonder what could have pushed them to such actions if they are indeed doing it out of pure malicious intent.

I will start from the bottom and work my way up:

I did try my hardest to depict Chara (at least her child self in this aspect) as one that doesn't have the ability to discern between reality and make-believe. An actual mental illness eating away at her psyche making her unable to turn off the part of the lizard brain that says 'fight or flight'. So immediately her brain snaps to 'fight' once she approaches someone. Human or monster.
The current time period this takes place is actually very similar to the original timeline, there was a bit of a time jump between this page and the last one. According to animal anatomy, a goat's gestation period is only 5 months, so Asriel is already born, but about a month old at this point. While Gael's gestation period, being technically a "human" skeleton is the same as any other human. 9 months, so she's 6 months pregnant.

Thank you again about the armor! It was originally designed on Delta, which I wanted there to be a reason that he wore it, seeing as 'royal guard' would mean he worked for Gaster, and as one can see in the Intro, they're RUNNING from Gaster, not working for him. So I wanted the armor to have more meaning behind it than just 'oh Papyrus is in the Royal Guard'. But yes! She is the one that has the ability to move quickly to avoid or attack without a second's notice. I love that you caught that!
I wanted to give Gael a relate-able relationship with Gaster. Like newlyweds sort of... which is actually what they were when Gael found out she was pregnant. Also the fact that her profession was to protect the Royal family, while Gaster's was to advise/concoct for the Royal family I felt was good. That way the story would progress the way I needed it to naturally without me having to really force it.
The skull is actually, while I was drawing it... it even surprised ME... the skull of a HIPPOPOTAMUS!! It's amazing how deadly those things look without skin!! But the answer to the sentience is a yes and a no. While Blackberry's "Nile" seems to be sentient, Delta's "Styx" and Gaster's "Zambezi" are not. But that is actually because Gaster and Delta have a surplus of magic that allows them to conjure the prototype (Zambezi) and the Mach III (Styx) with ease. Blackberry, however, barely even has magic to keep him together most days, so conjuring Nile is not only life-threatening, but it also takes on sentience as an adaptive countermeasure for the Mach II (Nile) because of the lack of magic.
Thank you once more for enjoying the comic! I love to get people interested in not just the main characters, but the others as well. They're not just side characters... they have such good stories to them all that I just can't imagine leaving them out. For each phase of the story, there will be a prologue for the 'side characters' that appear in the upcoming pages. That way the viewer can not only go in, knowing a bit about everything... but also so that they don't immediately think 'oh they're [insert character here] we already know how they are judging by OTHER Au's so we know how this will go and we hate them' and so that they create a sort of mental bond with a part of a character they thought they knew, that they didn't know could be. If that makes sense • w •
