Don't too fast settle up your style yet, just do what you like and try any style that you like or you even hate. Doing some experiment stuffs.

I made most of my character based on what I hate like frills, but ended up I am liking and try get expert of it LOL.

What happen to me  because my style is too anime oriented so most company reject me because of the style and not because of skills LOL. I still can make some outfit though it's just people here are narrow minded - character is just the face and not the whole body LOL.

Ah man we are in the same boat i had to STOP making anime because  when i apply to game company's they see anime then run that's why i had to make some real humans and what not. Where i live most game company's don't like or Use anime in their games so i have to make real humans or guns / weapons etc it's a damn shame if you ask me, i live on  the wrong side of the world lol.

It's a good thing to have your hobby as your work, but not all people have the the luxuries so just separate your personal and work stuffs. Don't worry even if you have to go against the mainstream just keep your anime passion as your personal work.

Adapting many style is good for versatility, and maybe you can apply it for your own style too.

I make some semi realistic in order to get the rid of the 'anime oriented style' that most people and the company see, although it's ended up still looks like anime LOL. The case is NOT many people understand about proportion, I can just change the proportion to get more realistic look since the topology are close enough.
