Description This time I decided to upload a 6 page tutorial in PDF format, rather than in individual pages.

This is a basic overview regarding the use of flash units in photography. You should be able to click on the download button to the left and read the entire file in Adobe Acrobat reader.

It's really not that hard, I will tell you, it's a bit like using a hammer, sometimes a softer blow works better than a hard one.

Nice article. I use flash sometimes, not as often as I could/should. Right now I'm looking for a solution for using a wireless trigger with my speedlight.

Is this the primary, or slave. How far away do you need to trigger it from?

The speedlight is the slave. The issue with Sony is the none standard hot shoe.

Okay, so you are firing the built in flash on the Sony? or no?

The plan is to mount a transmitter on the Sony hotshoe and let that trigger the remote receiver. I'm open to other suggestions though.

Well, it depends on what you want to do. If you want, you can trigger the slave using the flash on the Sony with a photo optical trigger. They're pretty cheap and simple. You can get something like a pocket wizard (what you're talking about) which mounts to the hotshoe on the Sony, and uses radio waves to trigger the slave. They are a bit more expensive.
I use the photo electric slave because I have 2 off camera flashes and if I'm using a slave and only want to fire the slave, I just point the flash away from the subject.

I'm using the optical trigger now. I've turned down the on camera flash, but I want to try some shots with it off the subject completely. I haven't found a pocket wizard that mounts on a Sony yet. There may be one now, I haven't looked in a few weeks.
Thanks for the input.

There is a hotshoe adapter, that fits on the Sony, and has a standard hotshoe on the top.
