Nikon cameras come with a program called "Capture NX2". It's a trial program and it costs $149. to buy the license. It will open the Nikon native RAW files which are called .NEF files. Many other programs also support this file. As you know I've been playing with different programs.
Anyway, when you install "Capture NX2" it's a good idea to disable the anti-virus or it will not install correctly.

Oh !! Now it makes perfect sense!!!
Good that you are trying it ... you will be able to
provide good feedback!!

I will have to find out what programs open RAW. Maybe Photoshop does!

Yes photoshop does. As long as the codec is installed and if it's not, it will tell you.

The avo's doing very well in deed. I was wondering how it was coping with the cold weather. You do realise how big they grow don't you?

You'll need an extremely large pot & a whole room dedicated to just it!

Looks like you're having fun with your mew toy!

Well, I think I'm going to try turning it into a bush. I have 8 foot tall Ficus Trees in pots as well as a grapefruit tree in a pot, so who knows? We have 3 of the avocado trees now.

Citrus trees will grow in pots and give fruit for thirty years. Fertilizing, watering and keeping bugs off is all they need. I grow various citrus and use the fruit. I have seen a Ficus growing up a stairwell of a three story building. It looked great, which probably started me off growing trees in pots.
Avocados on the other hand are huge trees and have a big root system. I think you would probably restrict them to about 3 metres, (10ft). They grow better in black sandy soil, do not like wet feet, (drown easily) and don't really like frigid temperatures. Great fruit that don't ripen on the tree. They rot. Here, Magpies, Crows, Indian Minors, make a mess of them.
Good luck. I drive Kerry nuts with trees. Keeps me off the street.

We're not really doing this for the fruit, more for the fun of it. It would never survive here, outdoors. It gets WAY too cold. The seeds came from some avocados off a tree in 's back yard in Florida.

The Grapefruit tree we have came from a seed in Lindsay's breakfast one morning... It was probably one of those hybrid deals where the plant from the seed will never be able to produce.

We have a bunch of stuff in pots that we're not supposed to have.

Don't be surprised if the grapefruit seed goes on to produce fruit. If you have citrus in the neighbourhood, bees will germinate the flowers. You could have a new species. That's how it happens. I have a Seville Orange. The fruit is basically inedible but you can make Marmalade. I have grown the seeds from one fruit and they were very hardy. I planted them in our garden and now we rent the house out, so I don't know what is happening. It is a load of fun. My problem is I'll probably grow a Triffid and it will eat everyone.

I assure you, there's no citrus species that can live at the latitude I live at!
Now, that being said, I also have a Meyer lemon, which is self polinating, the problem is the grapefruit would have to flower, and it hasn't done that ever!

lewis60 In reply to TThealer56 [2010-02-08 23:23:01 +0000 UTC]

Does the grapefruit have lots of thorns? Does it get out of it's pot and walk around? Boy, you're in trouble!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TThealer56 In reply to lewis60 [2010-02-09 06:59:52 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it does have thorns, no but it does tend to grow roots out of the bottom of the pot...

lewis60 In reply to TThealer56 [2010-02-09 12:01:16 +0000 UTC]

Snip the roots off and turn it into a Bonsai!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TThealer56 In reply to lewis60 [2010-02-09 15:27:52 +0000 UTC]

We have to snip the roots, where it sits in the summer, outside, the roots poke out the bottom drain holes and go over and down into the dirt. This tends to make it tough to pick up the pot and bring it in.

Not all inside I hope!

You sound a bit like Den here. His fruit trees were a major issue when we moved. they're now the most expensive fruit trees on the planet! They took up a 3rd of the floor area of the truck we used to move wth an estimated removal cost of about $100 each. Riduclous when you consider they cost under $25 to buy! BUT they're his babies. I moved a lot of craft related items that i could probably have replaced easily so I think it balanced out in the end!

Yep! The ficus trees are in the garage right now, outside would kill them.

Well, yeah, we do grow attached to these things. There's alsop the point of how many years there are invested in the plants. It's very hard to replae the growth factor.

My daughter and hubby took us to this Japanese Restaurant. She starts badgering me about eating Sushi, I tell her, "Lindsay, you've never cleaned 100 fish in one afternoon, I don't eat raw fish." So she keeps after me and I tell her, "Look, I'll try it on one condition, If I like it, fine, if I don't I'll say nothing more than "Enjoy your Sushi dear" and then we're done with it, okay?"
So she agrees, and I try it and tell her to enjoy her Sushi!
Yes, it was raw fish. I ordered the finely sliced rare marinated ribeye.
