Description This is Comet... Now Comet has a very interesting story behind him that my daughter, *LadyBlacksword can explain in more depth than I.
When Lindsay (above mentioned ) was a young teen, she had a cat that was an outside cat named Jasmine. She also had a friend named Addie, whose family had Comet. Comet was one of those inside/ outside cats. Anyways, Comet was the only cat that Jasmine would not run off! She would even share food with Comet, even though Comet seemed to have a crush on our inside female Siamese, Misha. Jasmine passed on I guess about 7 or 8 years ago. Well, about 6 years or so ago, Addie and family moved, and we didn't see Comet again... Then a couple years ago, Comet shows up an bumps the back door, with about 6 inches of snow on the ground! This is how the cats let us know that they were there for their free meal. Jasmine taught him that trick.

We haven't seen Comet for a while. So this morning my sister came over and we were all talking about cats, and we mentioned Comet.... You can imagine our surprise when Alice saw him at the back door looking in expectantly.

This photo is dedicated to my daughter, Lindsay....

Wonderful story! I have a "tuxedo" cat too called Oscar but he has a lot more black on him and a white tip on the end of his tail. He was abused and his leg was broken at 6 months of age by his first owner and was rescued by the vet who wouldn't return him, so he became the surgery cat who greeted everyone when they came to visit the vet. After our last cat died at age 12, the vet asked us if we would like Oscar. He's been happily living with us for more than 5 years now.

I just don't get why some people feel they have to be mean to cats.

I'm glad for Oscar, though.

Soleyes In reply to TThealer56 [2008-11-28 13:12:23 +0000 UTC]

Nor do I. It was the boyfriend of the owner who the vet didn't like. The previous owner said a suitcase fell on Oscar....but you know, he is never afraid of a suitcase or my attache case. He's only ever afraid of a broom or something of similar size or shape in your hand. I think I know what really happened to him....hmmm. So we are always mindful of his fears. I don't think animals ever forget.

Lil' Guy our Siamese used to be afraid of the vacuum cleaner. Lindsay would playfully chase him with it. But what's funny, after she left home, he's perfectly content to sit and watch me use it. He apparently has the ability to distinguish between who will do what with what.
Yeah, I think you're right, about the broom deal.

I don't think he's used to someone pointing a big ol' lens at him! He skittered and then came back out to see if I was going to "shoot" him or something. I had also spooked him because I went out the front door and came around the house. He probably would not have spooked had i come out the back door.

Silly kitty! My dog will actually jump up and try to sniff the lens if I'm taking his picture.

TThealer56 In reply to JennDixonPhotography [2008-11-27 01:03:57 +0000 UTC]

Yes. One thing about outside kitties though. Mean old ladies try to hit them with a broom. Idiots try to drive over them with cars. Old curmudgeons take rakes and try to hit them. Growlers (dogs) chase them. If you're close to the country, coyotes dine on them. A smart cat is a wary cat.

Thanks Candace! You'd love to have this one on the farm. Actually, I wish I could catch him and get him to a farm. I think he'd be very happy.

dove-51 In reply to TThealer56 [2008-11-28 04:02:10 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure he would love the farm. We did have stray visitor last summer for a bit that could be Comet's twin. Fred called him Sylvester, but that's what he calls every cat. Right now we have a pure white fella that is sticking around quite a bit. I think a square meal every day is helping. Although he is a pretty good hunter; caught himself a rough grouse in the fall; it was almost as big as he was.
