I'm not going to lie: I wasn't too impressed with this season and think it's a massive step backwards from the previous one. A lot of the episodes here just didn't hit the same notes compared to the previous two. It has given me my new favorite episode of the show, New Kid on the Block, but beyond that, not many of the episodes stick in my mind all that much. The other great episodes are all interchangeable, and I think I know why: This season experiments more with this show's formula and it often leads to episodes like Last Exit to Springfield which, in my opinion, feel like they came from complete left-field. These episodes try to tell somewhat heavier stories than the ones in the seasons before it, but there isn't that much to find beyond that. The stories aren't bad, in fact, they're really entertaining, but it feels like sometimes the episodes forget to add in some more jokes. This season is still pretty damn funny, but I felt like it could've been better. In fact, upon rewatching this season, it got a bit better for me. It's a pretty small one, about the same length as SpongeBob's tenth season, but this one was still quite GREAT. I still like it a lot, but I don't think it's as good as season 2 or 3.
