This heron scared the bejeesus out of me! I was sitting on the ground trying to get a picture of a Buffhehead without a bunch of mallards photobombing it, when this heron flew out of the grasses, letting out its low dinosaur-like "skwaaaaaak!!!!"Burnaby Lake.

I love herons, they're amazing birds, even though some are so big, they're welcome in the trees with the other birds. Truly a magnificent sight when one flies by over the lake.
