Created by John Byrne in 1983 for ALPHA FLIGHT #1, Marrina Smallwood was a member of the alien race known as the Plodex. Raised on Earth, she became a member of Alpha Flight and later married Namor the Sub-Mariner, becoming a member of the Avengers. Not long after, her alien DNA took over and transformed the meek Marrina into a raging sea serpent that became known as Leviathan. She later died in battle with the Avengers and was buried by Namor. Marrina was a unique hybrid of Plodex and human DNA that made her completely amphibious, with webbed hands and feet, pale yellow skin, black fishlike eyes and green hair, she was immune to freezing temperatures and the pressures of the ocean depths. Her enhanced speed, strength, sight and endurance made her a formidable combatant.
