Description This is former Captain Logan Alvamel of the US Navy. He once commanded the Jolly Wrenches and served from 1974 to 2006 when he was retired without prior notice. Being an F-14A Tomcat, not all that many options were open for Logan once he was let go. He found an inexpensive hangar in Kansas near McConnell AFB and struggled to live as did all other Tomcats retired from service. Living on vet benefits and a pension for his 32 years of service, Logan could only afford to use civilian grade fuel at the cost of performance. He did not harbor any bitter feelings toward the greedy Cadillacs in government who tossed him out of service, all he wants is to serve a purpose again. For 8 years he lived in Kansas longing for a purpose as things went from bad to worse for retired Tomcats in America.
Eventually he was found by a flight instructor who requested his services to train new fighter aircraft. He had a purpose once again, and despite being over 45 years old couldn't be happier.

Is he brave enough to meet a young screw up?

I'm certain he could meet someone. You read the story about Logan, right?

Yes I have been reading his story.  He got the short end of the stick.  Poor guy after all he did for his country, they threw him out like garbage.

Just like in real life the Tomcats were replaced in favor of smaller, more efficient and lighter F/A-18 Hornets. Imagine how you'd feel to be fired just because you got a little older and weren't as up to date as your younger counterpart although you did every bit as good of a job as your counterpart.

Yup.  I am actually retired navy, and yes I was 'fired' for being 'outmoded' too.  My navy experiences will color my stories.  I very much identify with the F-14's plight.

It should be fun.  She'll be a bit surprised at his size, impressiveness.  She may be a bit tongue tied.  She'll feel small-like a toy airplane.  She doesn't really know much about her proud heritage.

Logan is the old warbird with decades of experience and has been to hell and back time and time again. Shins is the newbie and not seen as very capable in the eyes of others.

You nailed it, even though she can fly at Mach 2.3, faster than the Hornets and Lightnings.  She doesn't know about her heritage and those around her don't want her to know about it.

Tomcats are the fastest carrier-based jets, but speed alone isn't enough. It makes me wonder why she would never be told of her heritage, though.

On this, do you want me to write the story, or do you want to write your character's half?  Does he wear the read scheme in his retirement or does he were the Jolly Wrenches scheme?

Tulmur95 In reply to Scooter160 [2014-11-03 19:18:32 +0000 UTC]

Logan had no color scheme when he was retired. You can write the story because I want to see how you imagine Logan would be like. He's old, experienced, has seen a lot of things and wishes to have a purpose again.

No, this year is 2014. Logan would be 45, and he served in the military for 32 years of his life.

Actually Logan was 5 when he first began to serve, since fighters mature quickly.

Yes, much like how animals mature faster than humans do.
