Description Sometimes you just get unlucky. The eastern river-roads were a way for brave merchants or warriors looking for lucrative employment to make fortunes and fame for themselves. Connecting with the silk road, the slave-markets and bazaars of Constantinople and Baghdad were always hungry for northern products, and the mighty Byzantine empire was ever hungry for skilled mercenaries to use in it''s endless wars.

But while there great gains to be made, risks were also substantial. The road was dangerous, and the people living along the banks of the Russian rivers were just as opportunistic warrior traders like the Scandinavians. This unlucky ship crew has been ambushed while they were dragging their boat overland to avoid one of the deadly rapids along the way. A raiding party of Pecheneg horse warriors has attacked them, and most of the Vikkng traders have doed under the hail of arrows. Only two of the seasoned warriors, hired for protection, are still alive thanks to their mail coat and padded armor. Wounded and surrounddd, they are making a last defiant stand in the face of a certain death. No songs would be sung forthese brave explorers.
