LIAR!! BIG FAT LIAR!! WE AREN'T SUPPOSED TO TALK ABOUT THE BIG, FAT LIAR BUT THERE'S A BIG FAT LIAR WINKING ME IN THE FACE!! I'm gonna print it out, cut it up and make guaca-LIAR!!
Ash and Giovanni are not father and son!! Watch Meloetta and the Undersea Temple, a Best Wishes episode, and you'll see no sign of recognition among either of them. Ash hadn't met Giovanni until his Unova travels, and that was the first time. Heck, Giovanni didn't even address or refer to Ash by name! If they were father and son, you'd think they'd recognize each other, or at least Giovanni would recognize Ash. But instead, there's not spark of familiarity between them at all. Read Ash's profile on Bulbapedia; nowhere does it say that Giovanni is Ash's father. I agree with AdvanceArcy . She speaks the truth.
So yeah, Ash's dad being the Team Rocket boss is a Big Stick-a Guaca-LIAR!!

Giovanni isn't his dad. It was never said in the anime.

Actually, from what I know, it was only revealed that Giovanni and Delia used to date, it never said that he was Ash's dad, only that it was a possibility...

Yeah, but Silver never appeared in the anime. In fact, if anything it makes it more heavily implied; why would the animators avoid adding Silver to the anime?

He appeared in a camio and he was talked about breifly- not sure why they would, though.
But then again, we are dealing with people who are making Pokemon more 'kid friendly' or whatever, it's slowly going downhill.
Perhaps it's because his story would require more thought into trama, but it ahs been proven that he is, if you have a Celebi in SS or HG.
And Giovanni is already gone- adding him back into the story would raise eyebrows.

But who's to say that was actually Silver? It was still only a cameo, it doesn't mean anything. You'd think that such an important character in the Johto games would appear more often, especially when the anime often makes up characters and gives them important roles.
I don't see how pokemon was not kid friendly to begin with. Repeating the same plot every episode is pretty kid friendly if you ask me. Considering they made it so that there was more than one lugia and had mommy and daddy lugias (*gag* thank you for ruining my favorite legendary) I'm pretty sure they could mess up Silver enough to make him more kid friendly. But they don't do that, instead they introduce a character based off him, but it's still not him (Paul).
Then again, the animators don't even put enough thought into the anime for basic continuity, I doubt they'd write something as intriguing and conceptual as Giovanni being Ash's dad. Even though it was mentioned that he and Ash's mom knew each other in the past.

((I hated it, it ruined my legendary. There is only one Lugia, adding more than one majorly cheapens him, IMO. They could have used something else other than Lugia. Latias and Latios would have been a better choice since they travel in herds. Breaking game canon FTL!! That's why I hate the anime.))
I still don't think Silver exists in the anime, he had a cameo, but I don't see him existing in it. Hell, why did he have a Nidoking? Silver doesn't have a Nidoking in the games, his father does. I just find it waaayyy too suspicious that the anime refused to have such an important character from the game appear in the anime. I mean, for what other reason would they not let him appear as to imply Giovanni is Ash's dad?

(( Well technically you can't prove their isn't or is more than one legendary- they're not inmortal- like how there is more than one Mew and what not, it's just fan's guesses.)
And if he didn't exist the wouldn't put him in a cameo.

Mew being more than one works, since they were supposed to be many of them before they developed into different pokemon. Having more than one doesn't go against game canon. However, there is only one Lugia, after all it is the guardian of the seas. Not "guardians of the seas," but "guardian of the seas." Notice there isn't an s after guardian. Besides, Lugia is supposed to be an incredibly intimidating legendary, having mommy and daddy Lugias really disregards that, and it really, really pissed me off.
It's still only a cameo, since he never is mentioned at all again, it could just be a character that looks like Silver. Like I said, why would the avoid putting such an important character from the games in the anime? Why reduce him to only a cameo? It doesn't make sense.

Wait, they aren't immortal? I'm pretty sure they are since they're told to have been around since, well, forever. In the anime they might be mortal, but not in the games. Even if they were mortal, I'd like to think they work in a similar way to a phoenix - if they die another one is born from the corpse of the old one, or something like that. Or at least Ho-Oh learns of it and revives them, which it can do according to GSC/HGSS, Ho-Oh definitely being based off a phoenix.
Like I said, the other rivals are mentioned. I'm sure they could have added what is a very important character to the anime.

You do know, that men are able to father several children, each one by a different woman right? So for all we know, he could be father to both of them.

That actually wasn't revealed in an episode, it was just barely implied in the non-canon show "Pokemon Live!". It was shown in that show that Giovanni and Ash's mom, Delia, knew each other in the past, however it was never said that Giovanni was Ash's dad. Either way it's not canon, just heavily accepted by fans c:
