Stumbled upon this again, reread your headcanon and my comment, went omg. I've been playing Xenoblade Chronicles lately and it has pretty much EXACTLY what you're describing, right down to the screaming from the soul trying to regain control.
Red must NEVER meet Egil, the evil dude in Xenoblade who roboizes people. NEVER.
Just thought I'd share.

Great drawing! I like how u give the bosses their own unique background story. So if you've mentioned Red via passing (I've played AHT way too much) will you be creating your own version of him?

Absolutely! I'll probably tackle the Spyro 3 bosses before him, but I'm planning on drawing Red.

Well I wish you luck and keep up the great work. You going to give them a interesting back story?

Yeeeah finally I really like his design, he looks quite agile (contrary to his Spyro 1 version) and powerful. I was always wondering why does he wear this pink punk hairstyle
I agree with you that he was probably the most decent boss of the first Spyro game and he was kind of tough. On the other hand, the fight could (and should) have been definitely harder (in general, most of the boss fights were incredibly easy - sadly, including weak Gnasty). But of course - it meant to be a game for children. At least Metalhead has some variety in his attacks.
I have a question for you - who is your favourite boss from the whole Spyro franchise and who was the most challenging boss (to draw) so far?
PS: Can't wait for king Gnasty!!! I feel he will be awesome as well.

I figured with his pink punk hairstyle, that meant that Metalhead clearly had some form of sentience, which meant either a bizarrely intelligent robot capable of advanced thought processes that learned that they like metal music best...or they started out as a gnorc and had intelligent choices involving their hair.
Obviously I went with the second one.
And made him less like a solid brick of metal like the model.
Let's see, my favorite boss in the Spyro franchise? That's kinda tough, because there's quite a few of them I really liked. Ripto from Spyro 2 is a very satisfying final boss battle, Crush and Gulp in Spyro had really well-designed fights, I also really like the Attack of the Rhynocs Ripto battle for having one of my favorite Spyro boss songs (www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFlP8Yā¦ ), Red had a cool boss battle in AHT...I think I'll go with Spyro 2's Ripto as my favorite boss from the whole Spyro franchise.
The most challenging boss to draw was Metalhead right here. I can't really draw robots and I see a lot of mistakes I made with the design of this. =B
Second most challenging was Blowhard, mostly in terms of coming up with a design that wasn't super boring.
Gnasty will be fun, believe me.

That chin seemed very necessary for his design. Big shovel chin.
Yeah, he's the only boss in the whole game that seems completely invincible and unable to be harmed by any of your attacks until you rob him of his power supply. Which then first he retreats to a bigger source of power, and then he just...falls over uselessly.
I did like his attacks, which involved throwing things or zapping you. Or punching you if you got too close.
He wasn't like Blowhard who just kinda slowly made clouds.

I learned that he can punch by playing around with the bosses while doing this project by intentionally walking up to him.
That being said I'm not sure what Blowhard and Jacques do if you get too close to them. I know Toasty and Shemp whack you with their weapons...
But yes, they did a very good job designing that boss fight so you instinctively know to attack the power poles.

Nah, I'm sure that both Blowhard and Jacques still throw their thunderclouds and flying boxes at you at close range, very few and far in between I'll get hit by Jacques in case I'm not quick enough on the final hit. Or worse, get hit and fall in the bleeding lava at the last second. lol
That's true~

Yay Metalhead! I love the idea of a rogue dragon elder working for the gnorcs. Scandalous! And I actually kinda feel sorry for the guy...it must suck being like, half robot and still having your brain/soul. Then again, isn't that pretty much what Iron Man and Robo Cop are? Idk.
I went and faved all these, let me know if I missed any...

The rogue dragon elder in question is Red the Fallen Dragon Elder from Spyro: A Hero's Tail, but yeah, it was scandalous he was doing some behind-the-scenes testing on his robot device you later see in AHT and basically helping the dragon's mortal enemy and basically dooming the Beast Makers when he still had a position in power. I'm sure the Beast Makers were extremely mad when they found out that out...
Don't feel TOO bad for Metalhead. I'm sure he's coping just fine with it.
...maybe.
Sorta.
...okay not really the guy kinda wants his body back.

Metalhead agrees with that notion. The mud and swamp water just gets in his gears, makes it hard for him to move. That's why he's in that temple, but even then...
Although him being in the desert would risk dust contamination.
Yeah Red didn't think this robot conversion thing through.

I imagine when they all got their assignments, Metalhead was the most adamant about switching with someone. Anyone. Come on, guys. He's now a piece of hardware, you guys can't do this to him.
"Can't I be in the Artisan's realm?"
"No, Toasty's there. He has an agenda against the farming dragons there."
"How about Magic Crafters? Magic Crafters seems free of mud."
"No, the wizard guy has to get his revenge against Cosmo and the other magic dragons there..."
