"Opposites"- I'm about to start illustrating Nate's backstory chapter but I wanted to draw this first as a teaser. I see a lot of artists depicting gay relationships as porn fodder with overtly sexualizaed, dramatic, stereotyped, and plainly unrealistic depictions. I've always known how I wanted to showcase Nate's potential love interest and how to handle it with care. In my Swordplay world there is no prejudice against same sex relationships due to biased historical or religious beliefs. There are already plenty of tragic stories in the real world with characters often dying or committing suicide in the end from oppression or some form of hate. Or even stories that make you believe that the only desire a gay person could want from a relationship is a sexual one. Instead I want to create a relationship between two guys that feels genuinely honest and isn't belittled to just a trope. Gay relationships may be different on the outside to some degree but they're really not so dissimilar to straight couples. So I'm excited to share Nate's lil side story and hopefully can give a broader look at what a relationship can be and it just so happens to be a gay one! 💛
