January's Bird-of-the-Month at was Waxwings... Unfortunately it took me almost the entire month to finish this painting (even though the actual work only took a matter of hours - I just didn't find the time/energy to work on it)!Here we have the three species of Bombycilla, top to bottom:
B. cedrorum
B. garrulus
and B. japonica
(That's Cedar, Bohemian, and Japanese Waxwings to give the common English names)
I really love Waxwings! I haven't seen B. japonica in the wild yet, but maybe someday soon!

I found a baby waxwing once. It was so cute! And demanding!
Someone's cat had gotten to it, and taken it who knows how far from where it belonged, so I took it home for a day or so, but ended up taking it somewhere else, so someone else could do a better job with the poor dear.
But knowing one has made me love waxwings more.

Aw, that's cute. Glad you found somewhere to take it. I used to work in wildlife rehab and baby birds are pretty demanding! I have never seen a baby waxwing, myself. XD
