Description In the 1960s, the hippie movement made headlines all across the United States of America. However, one of the most interesting places where the movement expanded in great detail was within the Christian circle. And that is where today's feature, “Jesus Revolution” takes hold. Using the 1960s as a backdrop, the film explores the concept of faith in a time where things were definitely and clearly changing at a drastic pace. Unfortunately, the end result just doesn't bring out the faith in a lot of people, including this reviewer. From over acting performances, to scenes that either drag or go nowhere, “Jesus Revolution” nearly misses the mark in what it is trying to accomplish. Yet, there are a few things that keep it from being the worst thing ever. And we'll get to them eventually. But for now, “Jesus Revolution” tries to bring forth the faith to a modern audience by showcasing a time of history that changed a lot of people, but in this day and age, it probably won't change this generation.

The story follows a young man named Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney), who meets a young woman named Cathe (Anna Grace Barlow) in search of the truth. Their search comes to a local church led by pastor Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer), who is trying to rekindle the faith of the time. Enter Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie), a hippie who is inspired by the words of the Bible and wants to help Chuck reach a newfound audience. Together, Chuck and Lonnie help out both Greg and Cathe, more specifically Greg, in trying to find the truth, as well as trying to find faith in the world.

“Jesus Revolution” is certainly a greatest, but mixed bag is a film.

Now, let's take a look at what makes “Jesus Revolution” good.

The costumes look nice; the time period is a nice throwback for people to get interested in. It does present a rather unique and fascinating framing of how this spiritual revolution came about from the hippie movement, and soon became this big phenomenon. The music by McCorkle is okay, and the soundtrack featured in the film is quite good. And that's about it.

But that's really all there is to say about “Jesus Revolution”. It tries to present itself as historical fiction by using faith as its main theme as a selling point, but it gets lost in its own production of trying to tell an interesting story. And with the few things that are actually good, are just okay in the end. It goes on for far too long, and the acting is just a mess. And yet, it's not the worst thing out there.

At least there is an audience for this kind of material. For that I can say that this film is pleasing in a sense. For all of those who do believe in the Christian faith, this movie does get a recommendation.

But as a normal movie, this is just a middle of the road experience. It's not bad, but it's not good either. It's just somewhere down the middle, and that's the perfect analogy for this film. It's alright.

First, let's take a look at what's bad about the film.

The direction from both Jon Erwin and Brent McCorkle, feels out of focus. It seems like there are multiple movies being made, and trying converge into one feature production. And it doesn't work. There are multiple stories floating around, and it is sort of hard to keep track of where all of them are trying to go.

Speaking of the story, the screenplay is written by both Erwin and Jon Gunn, and it feels very predictable. You can honestly tell where everything's going, and, more importantly, where the whole thing is taking you. The dialogue is also uninteresting to listen to; it seems both Erwin and Gunn tried to come up with dialogue that was popular during the 1960s, and made easy for audiences to understand. But most of the time, it is cliched, predictable, and most of all, not fun to listen to. It's the same kind of shtick that a lot of bad scripts are prone to. And of course, this movie isn't historically accurate, as with the case with a lot of these films, but here, it's creating historical fiction just for the sake of entertainment.

Plus, at nearly two hours, the movie doesn't know when to end. During the third and final act, there are multiple times when the film should end with an epilogue explaining the future events, but it just keeps going on and on, and doesn't know when to fully stop. There are also scenes that go nowhere, and just feel like filler material. If the editing had been improved, then the film would have been fine, but as it is, “Jesus Revolution” is just a slug to get through.

But the biggest crux that the film brings forth is the acting. All of the actors and actresses feel like they are over acting with everything that they got, and they are not believable in the slightest. Even Grammer, who is trying his hardest, just feels tired after the finished take that ended up on the screen. It seems like all of acting was put into a side bin, and just letting everyone do their own thing. And the end result is that it is mostly boring.

In overall, “Jesus Revolution” is not good! It does promise an rather unique outlook into the world of the hippie movement from the 1960s, but it does so in a rather uninteresting way of showing it. But unfortunately, It being a very boring movie which looks lame to me. also, it was a very disappointing movie of 2023. I'm not need plan watch this film! Why?
But because Jesus Revolution at least it wasn't boring, I also like the eponymous character of the show because he was nice, friendly, had a beautiful house & I wanted to meet as well with him.

You might want to find a better faith movie than this after seeing this one.
