Description "Usagi no Tsuki" (Rabbit of the Moon) - Digital Painting in Photoshop

Typically in the US we hear people speak of "The Man on the Moon," but ever since I was a kid I could never make out the shape of a man, however deformed, on the moon's surface. Instead, I always saw the shape of a rabbit.

Later I learned that the Chinese and Japanese also see a rabbit on the moon - "Usagi no Tsuki" in Japanese. Both cultures have a story about how a rabbit is on the moon pounding rice for rice cakes because he sacrificed his life for someone. This sounds more after the style of Sisyphus' punishment to me, but anyway...

I figured the rabbit deserves a break and so now he's getting to eat some rice cakes.

Wait... that also sounds like punishment.

This is the first drawing I've ever done where I've liked the digital version better than the traditional.

I'm sure he'd share if that's all he ever gets to prepare.

Thank you!
