one of the coolest things I have seen on here! How did you get your colors so smooth? Im experimenting with colored pencils now and its not easy. I'm more proficient with black and gray.Β

thank you! heres a trick to smoothing out colored pencils i kinda discovered by accident. go over it with an eraser pen, but dont bare down hard enough to remove any of the pencil (this may work better with certain brands). i also recommend coloring areas in multiple different directions. colored pencils is a medium that takes patience based on my experience.

wow, thank you! i can give you a few pointers in tradtional drawing if you like. the only downside to it is its impossible to undo certain mistakes so you have to be careful and replicating certain effects is tricky. i think youre the first person to tell me im an inspiration as an artist though so it means a lot.

I'd love to get some advice from you, it'd be awesome! (All tips are appreciated, but I'm having the most troubles with detailed backgrounds, without the main thing/character blending to it too much, and with those large, cool, shadings with black pen)
I haven't drawn in a while, though, but I have been planning on drawing something new, so my account wouldn't be so dead and only full of sketches.. I think the first thing for me to do would be buying some new pens, and with some new colors too, like what you used in Death Sword and Donkey Kong Underwater, white and blue and also other colors. Maybe some new black ones too.Β
And yeah traditional art can be tricky, but I feel like that's something I want to master and be good at, I enjoy it the most, and I find traditional art the best-looking art too.
And no problem, I really mean that, your art is so cool!

I normally don't make very detailed backgrounds, unless the background plays an important roll. Most of my backgrounds actually have very little detail. My trick is to let the centerpiece of the drawing have all the detail while the background has a nice composition of colors to compliment it, that way i don't overwhelm my viewers with detail. As far as inking, it's normally the places with the darkest shadows that I go fully black. Crosshatching can compliment it as well. I would recommend observing comic book art to get an idea of this. Artist Jim Lee is a good example. I use gel pens to ink then go over it with a Sharpie to give it a bold and smoother look, unless its smaller details, then I go over it with a pen again to make it bolder without messing up. For colors, I use Crayola colored pencils, so just buy a large pack of those. White things such as bubbles, rain drops, etc are made with a whiteout pen. One more important thing to my coloring process is an eraser pen. This helps me create highlights and smudge background colors to smooth them out. Not baring down very hard will smudge colors. Always keep a spare sheet of paper to test out colors and techniques. And don't erase pencil lines until you're sure your ink is dry. I think that covered everything.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help!Β
I actually just finished one artwork with progress pictures too, I tried to draw some kind of a background and I tried that shading technique. It's here if you'd like to check it out:Β verttiofcourse.deviantart.com/β¦
