no matter how many companies use 3D, 2D will NEVER die and will still live on. 2D is how animation got started and casting it on the side would be the equivalent of tossing your parents into a dirty back alley and leaving them because you find someone who could only win people through their wallets.Β

I'm actually really happy that you are drawing attention to this project and film. I saw this last year and have been following it since. It really is an awesome thing to have so many big name animators get together to create something that with draw attention and love back into an art form and entertainment that is slowly being swallowed by a newer media. Thank you so much for putting this up.

Just checked the fund. At the time of this comment's posting, they're just $1000 short the $80K target with 28 days to go! And now, Doug Walker aka Nostalgia Critic is donating too! Epic or what?!!!

This is amazing!
I have always loved 2D animation and have been worried for ages about it dying out because of the improvements in CGI, but this gives me hope again! I would definitely donate if I could!Β
Bravo, Disney veterans, bravo!Β

I love 2D animation too, that kind of experience was great in our childhood.
And i really hope this project saves 2D animation.
Like seriously! 2D animation is what made walt disney super popular and well known! :3

oh my gosh. I was almost clapping and whistling at my computer screen when I saw this. I love 3d movies, don't get me wrong, but nothing will replace 2d in my heart.there is just such a warmth to it..not to mention there are things that 2d can do that 3d just can't. that's another thing,i always felt that animation mediums should be able to sort of live side by side..not one dominate over the otherΒ to point of extinctionΒ ( which is what 3d is doing to 2d and stop-motion). they all have different effects and pros and cons. i's like how different art mediums areΒ all used to create different effects (like some use watercolors, some markers, some digital, some oil paint etc) they are all used, not one being reined superior!Β hope that all made sense..
anyway, I highly support this and hope it does well. I am very excited to see how it will turn out. it seems to have an interesting enough plot, with cool characters.
long live the art form "hand drawn animation!"

Makes me wonder if they could found their very own studios while this could be their movie debut.
Or maybe this will be a Disney movie?

Nowadays I usually see foreign countries develop good 2D animated movies than Disney. I hope one day Disney makes 2D movies just as much as 3D movies.

I've seen that!! it looks awesome to see!! and a good project to revive the beauty and wonder of 2D animation! Steampunk is a an awesome Idea to start it off with!!! I know back with Princess and the frog(2009) they tried to do a 2D animation fairytale again and I thought that can bring back the glory of Disney 2D, but that didn't work. Yet I do love Princess and the Frog for the beauty of it, seeing 2D animation again in that film makes me love it a lot more. Β Don't get me wrong some films are ok in 3D, but i'm getting a little sick of seeing 3D animation sometimes. Β When I see new projects I always bet that one of them should be 2D to try out and take the risks on for animation. Β I really have high hopes for this film and want it to happen!! I even love the steampunk artwork it puts on a new Twist for a disney film since Treasure Planet XDDDDΒ

This may sound farfetched but if I were at Disney, I would plan to keep 2D going because Walt himself began with it. Destroy that and you betray Walt himself whose vision was in the field

I'm glad their attempting to make another 2-D movie, but did they REALLY have to make the main protagonist look like Rapunzel and Anna? Seriously, when are they ever going to make a new face?
π: 0 β©: 3
InfamousEquinox In reply to WishExpedition23 [2014-09-03 19:34:09 +0000 UTC]
Here's the thing about what you just said about having the same face. Rapunzel and Anna in their movies are 3D models, which makes them easy to replicate, move around and design on a mass scale. What Hullabaloo has is a style; its similar to some of the newer princess that came out in this decade, like Tiana, Jasmine and Ariel. The team of animators behind this style is actually listed on the Indiegogo site above and if you notice alot of these animators worked on the same projects together. If you point out the design styles in the older Disney films vs the newer films is that the princesses were rotoscoped off of actual people, sometimes they were drawn other times they may have been filmed, meaning that they were meant to move and come off as realistic as possible. The style currently also uses forms of rotoscoping, but technology made the process of animating a little easier for the entire crew.
Concept art for films is often an interesting thing to look at because it's the throught process of the entire team of writers, animators, designers and producers before the choices are made. Concept character design for Anna, Rapunzel and even Elsa and Tiana show the incredible work ethic and ideas for how they fit into their world.

I'm glad to help you out a bit then! I'm majoring in animation and we have discussions about the style and tradition in animation and my teacher explained how 2D and 3D films are both positive and negative for the creative style.
