Description     "For me, there’s a lot of reasons why I have a hatred of the Stars. Let it be the butchering of the Dragons and their disturbed rituals, all the way to their grotesque disfigurement of the Scaled Ones. Today, however, I will be strictly speaking on some of their battle tactics. When it comes to warfare, they don’t really have skirmishers, not even cavalry, and a lot of their combat style was very rigid. Tens of thousands of Scalebolds would be drafted with very minimal training. Usually adorning tattered gambeson and armor, owning makeshift pikes to blindly charge and pierce the hard chitin of Plantarans or to hold them in place. Meanwhile large barrages of magic would rain from the sky and obliterate all it touches.

Magic of course being only used by the Priest of the Stars and their definition of a “knight” as they turn their vile sorcery and blade on their own kind. Very rarely do these overly pampered knights or priests engage in combat, and when the numbers begin to dwindle, they usually make a full-scale retreat while their levies make the ultimate sacrifice. Mercenaries were seldom used, and the only ones allowed in their "holy" army were other Scalebolds and the occasional Fruit Kobold thrall. Such barbaric strategies were seemingly used for hundreds of years as it mostly involved overwhelming numbers and swarm tactics.

The horribly ironic part is that levies mostly kicked the bucket from friendly fire, trampling over one another and, worst of all, disease. This is also considering the armor of the levies wore have been forcefully passed down for several years until the gambeson eventually disintegrated. This usually starkly contrasts the "pure white" and golden colors of the priests and knights. Sometimes they would dawn a pitch-black color on their plates or a muddy grey, calling themselves "harbingers" as I roll my eyes at the mere mention of their so-called elites. Many of the times, I try not to think about it, as I’m just glad such tactics are mostly a thing of the past, well, mostly...

I hope you're taking notes Captain PiK, as I tire of seeing independent Scalebold factions repeat the same mistakes. The Stars are long gone and soon to be forgotten, but there's still upstart Scalebold barons and cults fighting to take the spot they left... I just wished after the fall of the Stars I would never have to deal with warfare ever again in the Realm of Materia. Although, unlike the gods, it would truly seem that conflict is eternal, but I'll do my best to save who I can." ~Thomza Materia

...Yeah, I said I would stop with all the Data-Logs and focus on some bigger pieces, which, yes, I still am, and there will be a much larger piece out tomorrow, but this art piece actually has been just sitting there in my files for a good week or so without being posted. I just haven't had time to sit down and do the proper dialogue for it lmfao.

Disclaimer and Copyright: These characters involved, and the artwork belongs to me, TwistedHensley. The Skin to Scales Universe also belongs to me there, TwistedHensley... You get the drill. I want to point out that this is an Epic Dark Fantasy setting with a lot of mythological and religious tones and that there is no real-life connection to any of these events, religions, characters and it is fully, grounded, in fantasy. There is no copyright infringement also intended to other forms of media as Skin to Scales is meant to be its own thing and something I've been working on for a very long time. This is the same setting where faith is a massive part of the magic system, and it is usually meant to have a very bright and colorful art style to help balance the tone.
