Description 1967 Lola T70 MkII.

I was watching the film THX 1138 a while back. After Star Wars, Indiana Jones and American Graffitti, I was curious to see what George Lucas' first film was like.

No offense Lucas fanatics, as much as I love his other films, I thought it was very boring. I nearly fell asleep, when BAM! all of a sudden there are some amazing vehicles in a kick-ass car chase scene.

So I've decided to do drawings of the two Lola T70s, very good looking cars on their own, even more kick-ass with all the modifications and body kits made for the ones in the film.

And for once my scanner seems to agree, too and has given me a scan that looks just right

I have to agree with you there man, after seeing the car in the film. I fell in love with it. I fancy the one in the film since it looks much more awesome and c'mon, sounded like it was powered by a super turbine, who wouldn't want that. Great job on this, looks amazing. In fact I have to admit that I used this image as building reference when recreating the car on garry's mod.

Thanks!
I think it's amazing they managed to get hold of such rare, high-end cars - and probably had to have them imported from the UK - on such a small budget. I'll bet the car chase scene (and the vehicles in it) ate up a fair part of the money!

Nice job on this.

But wasn't this vehicle referred to as a "Samos 3" in the THX - 1138 film?

Obviously that's what it's called in the film - I wasn't aware of that before. The real car is the Lola of course, with plenty of modifications and gizmos added to the bodywork.

No problem.

Just figured that you'd be interested in what it was referred to in the film as I just watched it here the other day (the first time in many years) and heard it referred to as a "Samos 3".

After watching the film, I came on dA and sort of moseyed around looking for anything THX 1138 related and noticed your redition of the vehicle and subsequently left a comment.

But yeah, that whole back end of the vehicle (on top at least) is custom fibreglass bodywork as well as the lower side flange running lights and whatnot.

What sucked in the film was the sound effects that they dubbed in of when the Samos 3 began redlining / overheating. Sound effects were akin to throwing a bunch of nuts and bolts into a coffee can and then rattling them around inside whilst audiotaping the results. Really cheesy audio. I would have like to have had something more electronic alarm / electronic warning sounding.

OK dude, thanks for the comment reply.

Take care and have a good one.
