Description
A megaloptyon looks upon its slain companion, perhaps in immediate danger from whatever killed the other, perhaps not. All of the animals in this scene, from the small, odd-shaped creature perched upon a branch to the megaloptyon to the bird-analogous animals wheeling off in the distance, are descended from the common housefly, one of the organisms seeded on this world. You can read more about this seed-world project, MESW, in my previous posts.

Megaloptyon are large, six-legged herbivores, part of the group camptopropoda (“bending front foot,” named for how the joints of their first feet cause them to bend against the ground while resting, making it easier for the organism to graze upon the ground), these organisms typically travel in herds, similar to many grazing animals on Earth, but these two males have left their herd, a behavior they exhibit when a herd has a disproportionate male-female ratio, in hopes of finding a new herd which will welcome them. They travel through a dry, savannah-like forest, made vulnerable by their low numbers, a fact that a predator has taken advantage of.

Some of you may remember the plants I created for this project earlier this year, and while these featured here take some inspiration from previous designs, it is notable that those earlier plants are no longer canon to the project, partially because I would like to redo many of the designs and also because I find their trait of floating leaves to be unrealistic and better fit for another setting.
