I have no clue what those dinner plate things are or what they're for, but that's one thing that's fun about drawing robots. It gets way cooler when you add some freaky thingamajigs on them so that viewers can use their imaginations to figure out whatever they are... or something like that.

Those dinner plate things are called arc nodes.
The people who control the machines can casts pells through those, isn't that neat?
