It's rare I go into Eden III lore anymore, probably because that planet seems to exist in temporal flux outside the normal galactic timeline. I mean, just so much has happened for what seems like thousands of years. And yeah, technically thousands of years have passed since that planet's creation by Maximus after he became a god, but it just seems to be a dumping ground for fantasy ideas inspired by Tolkien, which spans even more thousands of years. Speaking of Tolkien, here's my take on the War of the Ring! XD

Thousands of years ago, when most of the civilizations of Eden III were still in their ancient to classical eras, there existed a powerful yet wicked empire on the west side of the Heartland continent. They were called the Crimsonites, and their capitol city rested along the slopes of a fiery volcano named Mt. Darkfire. One fateful day, a meteor fell from the sky and into the volcano. From that meteor emerged a fragment of the fabled One Blade. The dark lord of the Crimsonites, Lord Umbrum, forged a mighty sword from the fragment, creating Eden III's own copy of the Cursed Sword Soul Edge. With the power of Soul Edge, and the Evil Seed spreading across the world, the Crimsonites marched on a horrific conquest that threatened the planet.

Word was sent to King Richard of the Kingdom of Eden, across the sea. As the Elven Alliance and the Midasian Empires struggled to hold off the Crimsonites on the eastern coast of the Heartland, ships of Crimsonites were beginning to threaten the east coast of Eaglalia as well, as they led amphibious assaults against the budding Hasinite Empire. King Richard immediately realized the urgency, and began to rally the kingdoms of the world against the Crimsonites. Their goal: destroy Soul Edge in the fires of the mountain that gave it power.

To aid in his quest, the gods of Olympus granted King Richard a sword that could make him immune to Soul Edge's effects: Soul Calibur. The war dragged on for several months, as the united kingdoms of Eden III marched against the Crimsonite armies. By the time they reached the capitol city on the slopes of Mt. Darkfire, Lord Umbrum began to become desperate. He channeled the power of Soul Edge and the Evil Seed into himself, slaughtering all who stood in his way. King Richard, Soul Calibur in hand, challenged Lord Umbrum to a duel to the death. The battle was so fierce, that the spirit of Soul Edge, Inferno, merged with the dark lord, and almost killed King Richard. However, spotting an opening in the eye of the Cursed Sword, Richard thrust Soul Calibur through it, and in doing so pierced the dark lord's heart. With Umbrum defeated and Soul Edge weakened, the Cursed Sword was carried up the volcanic slopes, and tossed into the fiery pit. Soul Edge was no more, and as the volcano exploded and the capitol city with it, the Crimsonite Empire was no more.

However, one mighty Crimsonite warrior survived. Darthon, the Last of the Crimsonites, having borne witness to the destruction of his once great empire, fled his homeland, and took refuge in the recesses of Skull Mountain at the center of the Heartland. He vowed revenge against the world that massacred his people, and would bide his time attempting to recreate a cursed sword to rival Soul Edge. One day he will tap into the power of his mountain hold, and raise an army of the dead to take back what he lost. Only time will tell if he will ever succeed....
