Description This was done after I read the "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows." I was ecstatic to read that Neville with the help of Ginny and Luna kept the fires of hope and humanity burning in Hogwarts when it was ruled by the Death Eaters. They stepped to the forefront and led the rebellion at Hogwarts while also taking the brunt of the punishments. They knew that while Harry, Ron and Hermione were taking the fight to Voldemort on the outside they had a duty to take up the fight to his followers on the inside at the school. Great leaders don't just lead they inspire and in the absence of Harry it fell to Neville and did it magnificently.

Completion Date: Late 2007

Whatever happened to Trevor?

tyger9000 In reply to Lightfighter1 [2011-08-12 20:08:41 +0000 UTC]

Trevor either finally was successful in eluding and running away from Neville or he was one of the casualties in the Death Eater's siege on Hogwarts. I'd like to believe the latter, that he sacrificed himself to save Neville in some way, much like what Hedwig and Dobby did for Harry.

"I love the second trio." - Yeah me too. Don't get me wrong I like the "Golden Trio" and the books revolve around them but these three played a pivotal role in keeping some hope burning at Hogwarts. I think they deserve a little fanfare also.

I just love all the characters. They each have their special place in the plot. I adore how Nevile's personality changed so dramatically by the seventh book. They were all so brave.

"I adore how Nevile's personality changed so dramatically by the seventh book." - None of it would have happened had Harry Potter and the rest not been in his life. It is almost as if Neville took the best qualities from his friends to re-enforce and bolster his own personality and sense of self. He gained, better yet rediscovered the courage, intelligence, loyalty, and sense of justice that was buried deep within himself. Not bad for the second "chosen" candidate.

PleaseHush In reply to tyger9000 [2010-05-18 01:20:10 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. When we learn that the prophecy could have been made about either Harry or Neville, the idea of Neville as "The Chosen One" sounds almost comical. But by the end of the series, when we see how dynamic of a character he is, we come to an understanding of why he had the potential to be Voldemort's worst enemy...both Harry and he came from families that were broken as a result of Voldemort's meddling, and both (eventually) grew to become amazing individuals.

I love Harry Potter.

"But by the end of the series, when we see how dynamic of a character he is..." - Dynamic?...Yes. But I prefer the scientific term "BADASS". It has a nice ring to it.

You, sir (or madame), have a way with words. Badass is, perhaps, the closest word in the dictionary that conveys precisely what I was getting at.

See, I assumed you were a guy, but didn't want to offend you just in case you weren't. You can usually tell a male artist by the way he draws different genders.

"See, I assumed you were a guy, but didn't want to offend you just in case you weren't." - No worries.

"You can usually tell a male artist by the way he draws different genders." - Hhmm. I don't know how to take that statement.

PleaseHush In reply to tyger9000 [2010-05-18 03:48:51 +0000 UTC]

The best way I can explain what I mean is something a little like this: [link]

That only shows the male form. You can tell with both - or, at least I can.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tyger9000 In reply to PleaseHush [2010-05-18 04:05:31 +0000 UTC]

Are my poses rigid and lack fluid grace, or is it because my art is angular for both the men and women?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PleaseHush In reply to tyger9000 [2010-05-18 04:29:22 +0000 UTC]

Neither.

Let me try and explain what I mean.

The easiest way to tell that you're a guy is by looking at this picture: [link]

You were aiming to draw two guys that women would find attractive. But because you concentrated on their physical strength and, for the lack of a better word, "machoness", it makes it obvious you're a guy. Typically, a straight girl who tries to draw an attractive guy would concentrate on other features.

When you draw, you put a part of yourself - your thoughts, emotions, and desires - into your art. The women you draw are sexually appealing, which indicates that you're attracted to them.

I don't know how else to explain it. It's more of an intuitive deduction, rather than a logical one.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tyger9000 In reply to PleaseHush [2010-05-18 06:42:50 +0000 UTC]

Yes I see your point. I've always worried that the women I've drawn have to angular features and are not soft enough if that makes any sense. I've told people that drawing the female form is arguably one of the hardest things to draw, but yet rewarding.

PleaseHush In reply to tyger9000 [2010-05-22 02:27:56 +0000 UTC]

I find the male form harder than the female. I guess it's different for everyone.

This is the hero trio. I don't care that the golden trio was taking the fight to Voldie, or who did the last strike. Neville, essentially alone, kept a whole school from completely giving in to the deatheaters, their keeping hope alive through defince is the most badass thing ever done in the series

"Neville, essentially alone, kept a whole school from completely giving in to the deatheaters, their keeping hope alive through defince is the most badass thing ever done in the series" -That's right. Once Ginny left to go into hiding with her family and Luna was taken by the Death Eaters it fell onto Neville to carry on the fight. He did it neither for glory nor praise but for a sense of justice and because it was right.

He has become my favorite character in Harry Potter. Not favorite secondary chaaracter, favorite over all.

Another thing, he made the defeat of Voldemort possible, he killed Nagini. I have no aversion to snakes, but I couldn't do something like that. HE CHARGED AT VOLDIE AND CUT OFF HIS SNAKE'S HEAD!

"He has become my favorite character in Harry Potter. Not favorite secondary chaaracter, favorite over all." -I know exactly what you mean. I had a feeling ever since book 5 that he would play a pivotal role in the struggle against the Death Eaters. When training with the DA you saw him gaining confidence and slowly little by little come out of his shell. He was the only ally remaining to be standing by Harry's side at the end of book 5. Outnumbered and facing imminent death, Neville who was wandless with a broken jaw never backed down and never even considered giving in. We saw his resolve that he would fight to the end and he was willing to die alongside his friends.

"Another thing, he made the defeat of Voldemort possible, he killed Nagini..." -He did this because he was asked to by Harry. Neville knew that Harry would never ask unless it was deemed important.

He is just pure awesome personified. Simple as that innit?

I was more on about the size of Nagini and the scariness of Voldie. I wouldn't leave the crowd to do it, or at least do it from a distance. NOT CHARGING WITH A SWORD!

"He is just pure awesome personified. Simple as that innit?" -Oh hell yeah you and I are in complete agreement on that.

"I was more on about the size of Nagini and the scariness of Voldie." -The greatest evil the wizarding world has ever faced is standing in front of you with his giant snake. I'd say that was enough to make anyone tremble with fear and apprehension. But Neville is such a bada$$ that he had to do what a bada$$ had to do and stood his ground.

Neville Longbottom = Kind hearted evil stomping bada$$. Nuff said.

"I absolutely love this...and you portrayed them perfectly."- Thanks for that. I wanted to show that these 3 were as capable as the "Golden Trio". Ginny has the strength and fortitude and never say die attitude as Harry, Neville has the the kindhearted and treat everyone equally attitude as Hermoione, and Luna shows an unwavering and steadfast loyalty to those whom she calls friends just as Ron does. Determination, kindness, and loyalty, these 3 are an excellent example of the kind of wizards that Hogwarts produces; the very same type of wizards who without being asked by Harry stood before the fury of the enemy drew a line in the soil and said you may not pass.

"All those school years of being bullied really toughened him up."- With the exception of Malfoy and his cronies and Prof. Snape, I don't believe he was bullied by any other students, it was only that he lacked confidence. By befriending Harry and the rest, by joining the D.A. and his interactions with his friends he gained it.

When the Golden Trio were gone for their last year and Ginny and Luna disappeared halfway through, Neville instinctively shouldered the mantle of leadership. He said it inspired "hope" to the other when he showed defiance in the face of injustice.
