Description For years there weren't very many Scar plush. It was pretty much limited to a small Disney Store beanie (lower right) and a much larger vinyl-faced plush by Applause (not pictured). Disney has finally caught on to the popularity of this character and most of these plush are from recent years.

Front row, L to R:

Disney Store Scar beanie, 2003, this guy is very detailed for such a small plush, with soft high quality materials, embroidered features, and tiny felt claws

Disney Store Scar beanie, late '90s, this was the only Scar plush I had until this year. He's decently detailed, but his plush is not very soft and doesn't have as much of a 'quality' feel as recent designs. He also not only lacks claws, but toes!

Back row, L to R:

Walt Disney World Scar plush, 2011, available only at Disney parks, this guy is very similar to a previously released Scar but has larger eyes and an almost cute expression

Disney Store Scar plush, early 2011, this Scar was available early in 2011 and as far as I know was only available in one Disney Store in NYC (if anyone has seen him at a different Disney Store, I'd love to hear about it!). I got him from an Ebay seller who lives in NY; this was her last spare. From what I've heard, the store only received one shipment of this plush. He is similar in design to the larger Scar plush widely available at all Disney Stores later in 2011, though he features a stuffed 'kinked' tail and a proportionally smaller nose and muzzle

Disney Store Scar plush, mid-late 2011, this Scar was widely available, though he tended to sell out of stores quickly and was sold out (and restocked) multiple times online

Walt Disney World Scar plush, 2003, this is my favorite Scar. His pose and expression state a very Scar-like disdain and the materials (including a dark chocolate brown mane) make him feel like a very high-quality plush. I got this guy on Ebay for... more than I really should have paid for a small plush, even in mint condition, but it was about half of what I see them going for now

Thanks

It took them almost ten years, but Disney finally got around to making some really cool Scar plush.

You have a great Scar collection! I still lack the NYC Disney Store one--you are so lucky to have him!--the 2011 Walt Disney World Scar, and the Disney Store Scar beanie that's next to the 2011 WDW Scar.

Thanks

The NYC DS Scar was an auction win that I really wasn't expecting. I was the highest bidder by $1, and the amount was at my max bid. Whoever it was could've easily outbid me by just a dollar. I was semi hoping they would because it really was a MAX bid, even though it ended up being cheaper than any of the other NYC Scars that the seller previously auctioned.

I'm lacking the Applause vinyl face Scar and am kind of kicking myself for passing on one with all tags and a perfect face, but didn't feel like paying $50-60 just then. He comes up in auctions often enough, but finding one with an un-scuffed face seems difficult :/

It's great that you won him. I wasn't lucky enough to find one like him, unfortunately, and I doubt that I'll find one anytime soon. But I'm constantly on the lookout for him anyway LOL.

Ah, yes, the Applause vinyl face Scar is not easy to find in mint condition. A mint condition one is definitely worth $50-60. I've actually seen several in just fair condition sell for $50. Mine has some missing paint on his face, but nothing major--and he wasn't over-priced--so I was super happy to get him.

Thank you. If only I had the money to get him right now! But just seeing him for sale on eBay gives me hope of having him someday.

Have you received your Kovu & Kiara yet?

Welcome, maybe someday

Yes, I have XD. They're so much better looking than my small 12" laying down ones. (I've seen some laying down ones that look pretty nice, but I ended up getting a couple of derp-faces, lol. I still like them, though.) I can't believe the sitting Kiara and Kovu were never released in the U.S; usually it's the other way around. These guys are really very nice, super build quality. The fabric on Kovu is like brand new. Kiara needed a bit of a bath (her fur was dark from dust), but she cleaned up nicely and looks almost new now. She has a really sweet facial expression, especially in comparison to my (strangely overstuffed) smaller Kiara. I'm really happy with them; I still need to post the pictures.

I'm glad you like them! I have the sitting Kovu, and I agree that he looks much nicer than the lying down one. My lying down Kovu doesn't look too bad, but the larger one just looks more like Kovu--not sure why. My lying down Kiara isn't so nice-looking, though. Her face looks a bit odd. I'm still on the hunt for the sitting Kiara. I'm sure she looks amazing, and I can't wait to see pictures of both of them.

To be honest, there have been several Lion King plushies that were released solely in the UK that were superior to the US ones, such as [link] which is my favorite young Simba plush out of all that I've seen thus far. I don't have him yet, but I have the Nala like him: [link] I also have the adult Simba of that set: [link]

It's hard to tell just how nice they are from the photos alone, but they are excellently made and VERY soft.

I forgot about those, you're right. Come to think of it, there have been some very nice TLK releases in other countries that far surpass a lot of U.S. releases (thinking of Jemini in particular here). But it just seems weird that the Disney store (basically an international company) would have variations like that in its product line. I wonder what prompts the decision to release one plush design in one country, and a different design (or none at all) in another?

Nice Simba an Nala, BTW. Very fluffy and soft looking.

Oh yes, the Jemini Lion King plushies look amazing. I'd love to find a Jemini Kovu PJ case like yours someday. That has got to be my favorite Kovu plush.

I don't understand why the Disney Store has variations like that. Also, the Disney theme park in Paris always has different Lion King plushies than Disney World and Disney Land in America, and I've never understood that, either. It makes it very difficult for us collectors. :/

And thank you. They are indeed very soft.

Thanks :3. That Kovu is my favorite as well. I like that they included his sort of 'hooked' or angled nostrils. Even the Disney plushes didn't include that little detail.

Yeah... on one hand, the variety is nice. On the other, it's difficult because of the language and shipping barrier. I'd really like to find this Simba from Disney Paris some day: [link]

Oh yes, that Simba from Disney Paris is awesome. I can't imagine how much shipping for him to the US would cost, or if a seller would be willing to ship a plush of his size to the US, but I'd love to have him. There's a smaller version of him, too, but it's not as nice.

I agree with you about the smaller version not being quite as nice. I've seen that version on Ebay a few times and it was tempting, but not as much as the largest one would be. He's just cuter. I think my next trip to Europe may include hitting some secondhand/thrift shops, LOL. Might just get lucky--if not with this particular plush, then maybe with others.

The larger one is definitely cuter, I agree. I'd love to go plush-hunting in Europe! That would be my perfect vacation, for sure.
