As an artist rooted in the world of contemporary aesthetics, my current oeuvre evolves around an exploration of male portraiture, masculinity, and the environment. My work is an exposition of these paradigms, carefully framed in a visual narrative that employs the tropes of masculinity while navigating the context of the environment. It is a dialectic journey that seeks to juxtapose these elements, resulting in striking compositions that challenge and engage the viewer.
The conceptual framework of my work is deeply influenced by the powerful cinematic portrayal of male identity and vulnerability found in Barry Jenkins' 2016 film, 'Moonlight'. The film’s subversive approach to a traditionally monolithic understanding of masculinity offers a poignant study of male identity that resonates deeply within my artistic vision.
Each piece in the series is an exploration of the male figure - not simply as an object of representation, but as a subject interacting with the spaces around him. Using portraiture as a medium, I aim to accentuate the multifaceted aspects of masculinity, breaking away from stereotypical depictions and instead presenting a diversity of masculine identities that are often unrepresented or overlooked.
