Description Came up with this one on a recent camping trip. Climbing mountains are excellent for coming up with ideas. This one's pretty dialogue heavy.

I was just idlely going over the various FF villains' achievements and realised that Caius from FF XIII-2 was actually an extremely effective villain and even had a completely understandable motive. Etro really did screw up, even though she did have good intentions....

So I got onto the idea of various other FF villains trash talking each other and trying to one-up each other. We start of with Garland and Emperor Mateus from FF 1 & II respectively. Kefka from VI was much more effective. It was hard to rank Kuja and Sephiroth, Kuja does destroy a planet but Sephiroth does kill of a party character permanently- which is probably harder.

As usual, background photo is my own.

Final Fantasy Fail, a [formerly, now at a whim] weekly comic spoofing the Final Fantasy video game series. It was to give me a break (and probably to keep my sanity) when I was doing my massive FF Tribute piece. They are done for fun and aren't meant to be taken seriously. These are all quick works and more manga-esque than what I normally do so don't judge me based on them. Ideas for future comics are always welcome.

Sephiroth will always be my favorite (I'm biased--FF7 was my first FF game) but this is so true...

FFVIII was my first final fantasy. But Sephiroth is pretty memorable.

Sephiroth Is Still Better In My Book, Caius Is Right There With Him. Also Sephiroth Achieved His Goal Too, He Pretty Much Did Actually What He Had Planned to Do, So he's Basically Immortal Too. Why Do People Seem To Forget This, Caius In A Sense Of The Word Is Model After Sephiroth Among Other FF Villains, His And Sephiroth's Goals Are Near AThe Same And Both Accomplished It In Their Own Ways. Whatever Not Gonna Even Argue As Long As Both Get their Spotlight They Will Remain Immortal Even After Death.

Please, there is no need to capitalise the first letter of each word. It is a pain to read.

i don't know the purple haired guy so whatever he did has no meaning to me... and i'm not buying a new game system just to play more junk... after X FF started to go downhill

Fair enough.

XII and XII-2 aren't as good as X. Though Caius, the purple haired dude, is a better villain than Seymour in my opinion. There are plenty of other good games on the PS3.

yeah, but i don't have the money for that, i could barely bought a ps2 for 80 dls, anyway it's not like the ps3 has better games, they just have better graphics, see u around

I was in the same position until the end of last year. Hence why I have a reasonable collection of emulators and roms.

Lulz I still haven't played FF XIII-2. After seeing this I feel the need to buy the game. What do you think of it?

Typthis In reply to LivingInThisFantasy [2013-03-30 21:31:39 +0000 UTC]

It's a much better game than XII. They've managed to improve the combat a bit and the introduction of monster crystals does give more strategy (plus, gotta catch 'em all). The plot is better, but I never really liked 13's plot. There's a lot more side quests and mini games which is excellent. I liked the temporal rift puzzles, some of them are good brain teasers.

Well I always loved FF XII actually XD
Thank you for giving me your point of view, I've been thinking of buying the game, but I believe I'll buy it more for completing the FF collection. I do like the FF XIII, but it's not one of my favorites, though I think I'll like FF XIII-2 better in some ways than FF XIII.

Right now I'm fixing my eyes and drooling at FF XV former FF Versus XIII

Sorry for the late reply, I'm been very busy lately.

I actually meant XIII in the original comment, not XII.
XII is an awesome game, it's a shame it got such a bad wrap.

I'm keeping an eye out on FFXV too. Graphics are top notch and the characters look like they'll be interesting (at least the NPCs). It's the combat system I'm a bit worried about. But we have barely seen any snippets of it yet so can't say too much.

Oh Okay. :3 I agree with you.

Yeah the graphics are excellent. <3 My sister was a little worry about the combat system too, but as you say and I agree we haven't see much yet so we can take any conclusions. All we can do is to give some critiques and wait to see what SquareEnix will do next. I hope that they release FF Type-0 soon too, I can't wait to get my hands on that game.

I really doubt Type 0 is coming out any time soon unfortunately. If it does get a release it might be on the Vita or PSN.

Yeah I think that too, but I really want that damn game. It looks so DELICIOUS!

I hope they release it on PSN so I don't have to buy a Vita just for Type-0, but I believe more that they will release it on Vita, that's why they're waiting so much time to release the game me thinks. :/

YEah, but that only makes Caius Ballad a "Deus Ex Machima". He's written in a way that he can't lose, no matter what the characters do though. At least with the other villains, they worked for it.

Typthis In reply to DebuLover [2013-03-29 21:59:59 +0000 UTC]

It's not too bad though. At least you're made to think that the heroes are going beat him up until that last plot twist cut scene and they do have lots of small victories (unless you read all the datalog entries and work out that stabbing him in the heart is a very bad thing to do). I've seen far worse 'unbeatable' villains. The main villain in the pretty poor sci-fi V was horrendous, every time the heroes got one break she'd one up them with something even more douchey.

Also I don't think you're using Deus ex Machina in quite the right sense. DeMs are plot devices where apparently unsolvable problems are solved with the inclusion of random things like extra abilites or new characters.

Of all the FF villains so far, I would say that Caius is the most successful of them all.

LOL! From the Dissidia's point of view, it's no wonder why they are easily defeated, because they are always fighting each other of who's the better powerful villain.
Funny comic overall!

Typthis In reply to LadyJuxtaposition [2013-03-09 20:55:44 +0000 UTC]

That's true. Also the heroes do gang up on the villains. I've only played Duodecim but you could have a party of up to 5 people against 1 villain.

But he's only revealed at the end of the game. He's not the villain that the heroes fight for most of the game. Thus from a character development perspective he's pretty minor.
