Tlaloc is the Aztec god of rain, and while serpents are a symbol of rain in their role of bridge between Heaven and Earth, Tlaloc himself is a humanoid god with odd spectacle-like elements on his face. One of his monickers is "the Sorcerer of Calm Joy".

I remember that pretty much every serpent was called Thlaloc in the lecture. Only a few were identified with Quetzalcoatl.
