Description These 350-foot macrograptids are the largest crustaceans on Green Earth. Unlike other macrograptids, Karkinos are filter-feeders, and have eight external mouthparts. The upper four are razor-sharp, and are used for defense against predators, while the lower four are fleshy and are lined with baleen for catching plankton and tiny animals. They possess four swimming legs, as well as a modified pair of walking legs. The six clawed walking legs are used for both defense and gripping onto mates for fertilization of eggs. Females give birth to live young, and only 50 or so babies are born at a time. These babies are 6 feet long when born, and stay near their mother for protection.
(The eggs in question are the female sex cells)
